Leona Lewis is a British Singer and Songwriter who rose to stardom after winning the third season of the reality television music competition, The X Factor, which awarded her with a £1 million recording contract. Leona Lewis was born to parents of different nationalities on the 3rd of April 1985 in Islington, London. Her father is of Guyanese descent while her mother is from Wales, and has both Irish and Italian ancestry. She has an older half-brother named Bradley and a younger brother named Kyle.
As a young girl, Lewis showed great interest in singing. Because of this, her parents enrolled her at a number of musically inclined schools until they could no longer afford it. First, she attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School, then the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts before moving onto the Ravenscourt Theatre School and the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. She was first trained in jazz and blues before switching over to popular and contemporary music.
