Lil Jojo was a US-based rapper and songwriter who gained widespread popularity after he dropped a diss track aimed at a rival gang group in Chicago. He had several kinds of music uploaded on YouTube which was very popular and was a member of the ‘Gangster Disciples’.

Lil Jojo’s Biography and Age

He was born as Joseph Coleman on April 6, 1994, in Chicago, Illinois to his American mother Robin Russell and father whose name is currently unknown to the media. He was raised and brought up in his hometown by his mother who was left to carter for him after his father was sentenced to 13 years in prison for attempted murder. The absence of a father-figure in his life brought him closer to his half-brother John, who was only three months older than him. He also had a sister although it is not known if she is younger or older than him. Unfortunately, there are no details about his educational background.

Lil Jojo due to the lack of proper guidance in his life went ahead to join the gang ‘Gangster Disciples’, where he joined his fellow gang members to participate in criminal activities and fed the violence going on in the community. Although he did belong to a gang, he, however, did not sell drugs.

Jojo was taking a ride someday when the song “L’s Anthem” came on in the car radio and immediately sparked his interest in a rap career and in 2012, he began his journey. In order to fit into the hip-hop world, he took the stage name Lil Jojo and dropped his first ever single ‘BDK (3HunnaK) which stands for Black Disciples Killer, on April 27, 2012. The song which was a sample of popular Black Disciples member Chief Keef’s “Everyday” rap track caused a lot of drama in the Chicago gangster world and had a lot of people upset.

Following the success of his debut rap track, Jojo released other Black Disciples diss tracks like ‘Tied Up’, ‘Have it All’ and ‘I Got that Sack’ and then later dropped his mixtape titled ‘JoJo World’.

His Death

Lil Jojo lost his life at the age of 18 on September 4, 2012, in Chicago. The youngster was shot to death while he was riding a bike belonging to one of his friends. It was said by an eye witness that a man in a Ford Taurus shot severally at Jojo who fell and died at the spot. After upsetting a lot of Black Disciples members with his diss tracks, his death really did not come as a surprise as many believed that he was killed by the rival gang group.

His death did help to reveal how much violence was plaguing the city of Chicago and its people. In a bid to honor Lil Jojo, his friends and fellow gang members changed the name of their gang ‘JoJo World’.

Lil Jojo was very close to his half brother John, the two grew up together, although they both have different mothers and lived in different houses, the family spends a lot of time with each other. John just like Lil Jojo, is a rapper whose stage name is Swagg Dinero and he is a member of the ‘Gangster Disciples’.

John had always loved rapping and was rapping since his high school days. He is very popular for his ability to spit punchlines. John was Jojo’s older brother and the person who mostly took care of him in the absence their father – who after he was released from jail when they both were 14 years old, was sent back to prison a year later on drug-related charges.

A year after Lil Jojo’s death, John took to his Twitter page to announce that his brother’s killer was dead.
