American professional basketball player Lindsay Whalen currently plies her trade with the Minnesota Lynx of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) as a point guard. She is also the head coach of the University of Minnesota’s women’s basketball team.

In the course of her professional career from 2004 to present, Whalen has won four WNBA titles with the Lynx as well as World and Olympic titles with the United States women’s national basketball team. She represented the country at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and in Rio 2016 – both of which she brought home gold medals.

Lindsay Marie Whalen Greve was born on May 9, 1982, in Hutchinson, Minnesota, to parents Kathy and Neil Whalen.

Growing up in the city with her four siblings – two brothers and two sisters, Whalen developed love and passion for basketball at a very young age. She played the game for fun as a teenager and then came to the beginning of her basketball career at Hutchinson High School.

Basketball Career

Lindsay Whalen began her career in the game since high school, at her place of birth. During those years, she excelled not just in basketball, but also in tennis and tracks.

Whalen was a four-time All-Missota Conference pick as well as a four-time honorable mention All-State selection in basketball. As a junior, she averaged 22.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists and later on, won a state title. She was placed 13th nationally with her club team, the Minnesota Jaguars.

The University of Minnesota Women’s Basketball Program became prominent during Whalen’s college career when she became the school’s highest scorer on January 2004. It was also a time which saw a surge in attendance in the Female basket games.

In 2005, the University of Minnesota retired her jersey number 13 in a ceremony at Williams Arena. On an international level, she has played in Russia, Turkey, and the Czech Republic.

With the legacy of a five-time All-WNBA point guard, Lindsay Whalen was made the head coach of the University of Minnesota’s women’s basketball team on April 12, 2018. She continues to play basketball for the Lynx while fulfilling her coaching obligations.
