At 6 weeks old, before she even learned to speak, Bella – a kid from the Miami suburb of Pembroke Pines, Florida, began her show business career and she has since not looked back. Bella Thorne’s movies now include a handful of critically acclaimed projects and considering the fact that she began her entertainment career as a way to support her poor family rather than out of passion, she has done fairly well.

Heartbroken upon making the discovery, she is determined to reinvent her image. Thorne stars as the villainous Madison – a mean and judgemental student whom Bianca tries to overthrow. Based on Kody Keplinger’s book of the same name, The DUFF was both a commercial and critical hit, It made $43.5 million against an $8.5 million budget and rave positive reviews with one critic saying that it offered a modern twist expected of films in its genre. It scored 73% on Rotten Tomatoes and 6.5/10 on IMDb. Bella Thorne won a Teen Choice Award for “Choice Movie: Villain” – the only award won by the film out of 6 nominations.

2. The Babysitter (2017)

The Babysitter was commended for many things, among them the casting which Thorne is part of, thanks to her role as Allison – a cheerleader who together with Bee is a member of a cult group. Bee is a hot young lady employed to babysit a young Cole but after Cole discovers her dark side, she is determined to make him keep mum and not expose her. The Babysitter is a blend of horror and its ratings on Rotten Tomatoes are as high as 72% with over 60% approval rating. Netflix which produced the film announced soon after its release that a sequel was in the works.

3. Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (2014)

This movie has widely been described as a great watch for the family, especially if that family includes teens. This is obviously reflective in its thumping box office numbers. Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day grossed $101.4 million against a budget of $28 million. Directed by Miguel Arteta (who is renowned for Chuck & Buck), the family fantasy comedy film tells the story of the personal struggles faced by the members of a certain family with their 11-year-old Alexander Cooper at the center. Bella Thorne plays the supporting role of Celia, the seemingly bitter girlfriend of Anthony who is the first son of the Cooper family and Alexander’s older brother. The film which has a rating of 61% and 6.2/10 on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb respectively, features big names such as , , and .

4. Midnight Sun (2018)

Rated 23% on Rotten Tomatoes, Midnight Sun was criticized for being too average and for its similarity to Everything, Everything – a 2017 movie which was more successful than Midnight Sun. The movie was however applauded for bringing awareness to a real-life disease known as Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) which its lead character Katie (Bella Thorne) suffers from.

The genetic disorder makes Katie sensitive to sunlight and as a result, has been sheltered since she was a kid. She begins her day at night when she goes out to play the guitar to random travellers. She soon meets for the first time, a boy whom she has admired from afar and both fall in love, however, she struggles with telling him the truth about her health. IMDb was better with its rating, scoring the movie a 6.6/10. Midnight Sun, despite its tepid reviews, was a box office success, grossing $27.4 million against a $2.8 million budget. It was nominated for 5 awards, including a People’s Choice Award for Favorite Dramatic Movie.

5. Assassination Nation (2018)

Despite the box office disappointment, critics still had lots of good remarks for Assassination Nation. The technological invention that is social media has overtaken the world today and young folks who benefit from it the most also suffer the most from its detriments. The effects of social media are very well played out in Assassination Nation where a small town is thrown into chaos after an unknown hacker reveals the contents of people’s personal messages. At the center of the chaos are four high school seniors. Thorne portrayed the supporting role of Reagan Hall. The drama/thriller film struggled to make just $2.5 million against a $7 million budget, however, Rotten Tomatoes rated it at 73% while IMDb gave it a 5.9/10. It was commended for its correctness in depicting the social media world as we know it today.

6. Ride (2018)

This Bella Thorne movie is one that is not so well rated with a score of 33% on Rotten Tomatoes, however, IMDb thought better of it, rating it at a 5.5/10. The thriller sees Thorne portray the role of Jessica. She is a passenger picked up by Uber driver James (Jessie T. Usher). Her trip is a ride-sharing one and she is soon joined by another passenger Bruno who though initially appears to be charismatic turns out to be manipulative. He suggests another night out with James whom he asks to invite Jessica too but the night out isn’t about to end well as Bruno has other plans up his sleeves. Among other things, the film’s ending was criticized. Made on an estimated budget of $5 million, its box office numbers have not been made public.

7. Amityville: The Awakening (2017)

The Amityville film series adapted from a real-life occurrence that dates back to the ’70s doesn’t seem to be unending as new instalments are still being released, this one featuring Bella Thorne is the 10th one! Thorne’s character – Belle Walker is a teenage member of the Walker family that have just taken the bold step of moving into the infamous house in Amityville, all in a bid to be near the neurologist whom they hope would be able to treat James – the youngest member of the family who is brain-dead. Belle discovers in school about the horrific past of the house. The film, though has been hugely recommended for fans of horror, is also deemed not a great watch for those who do not fancy the genre. It has however been rated above some films of the Amityville film series. It made $7.7 million at the box office and has a 32% rating and 4.2/10 rating on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb respectively.

8. Boo! A Madea Halloween (2016)

Chris Rock, in his 2014 film Top Five, made a reference to a fictitious Madea Halloween movie and Madea’s brainchild was inspired to make a Halloween movie titled Boo! A Madea Halloween. Thorne plays the role of Rain Mathison in the horror-comedy film. She is one of a group of friends invited to a Halloween party that goes awry after the arrival of police officers and Madea. Despite being heavily panned by critics with a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 19%, the film was a commercial success, grossing $74.8 million on a budget of $20 million.

9. Ratchet & Clank (2016)

Bella Thornes’s movies include a handful of animated movies and Ratchet & Clank counts among them. The film is based on a third-person shooter video game series of the same name. Unfortunately, the film was not as successful as its video game series as it was critically panned. One critic from Empire described it as a basic cinematic re-rendering. The movie has been generally described as fun to watch but mostly to fans of the video game series. Bella Thorne deviates from what she’s known for in her role as Hazel in the dramatic thriller and critics thought that this unfamiliar territory left her a bit overwhelmed. The execution of the premise was also criticized, hence, the 18% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Hazel is a young kid suffering from agoraphobia and her father (who is divorced from her mother) threatens to stop paying child support except her mother finds treatment for her condition. Unfortunately, on the day they travel to seek help, the unexpected happens.
