In recent times, it’s not so bad being an out gay person working in the media, but several decades ago when Andy Cohen began to work in the media things were different. Despite having come out to his friends and family, he found himself holding back at work due to the constant mockery and jabs his co-workers subjected gay people to. After he summoned the courage to tell people at work, there has been no looking back for Andy.

He went ahead to become the youngest openly gay producer hired by CBS News at that time. After being in the entertainment industry for several decades and winning several prestigious awards including an Emmy, Andy Cohen sees himself as one of the positive role models that young gay people can look up to in the media.

Who Exactly is Andy Cohen?

Born on the 2nd of June 1968 in St Louis, Missouri, U.S, Andy grew up with a sister and was raised by his parents. He attended Clayton High School and afterward, he went to Boston University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism. His career in the media began as an intern with CBS News who hired him a year later. He worked with the station for ten years and rose to become the senior producer of 48 Hours, The Early Show, and CBS This Morning.

In the year 2000, he joined Trio and became the vice president of original programming at Bravo in 2004 after Trio was purchased by Bravo. Andy is also a New York Times Best Selling author, having written some books and memoir which has been well received. Between 2011 and 2013, he hosted several pageants, including Miss USA and Miss Universe. He is well known as the executive producer of several award-winning shows like Top Chef and The Real Housewives franchise. He is also the host of Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen Live, and Love Connection.

Asides his journalism career, Andy is a gay icon in the media and is a staunch supporter and activist of several gay rights and bills. With his robust career as a talk show host, radio host, producer, and author, Andy has been a recipient of several prestigious awards, including two Peabody Awards in 2004 and 2007, a 2010 Emmy Award, and a 2019 Vito Russo Award.

Does He Have a Gay Partner Now?

According to Andy, he is presently not seeing anyone. In December 2018, he announced that he was expecting his first child through surrogacy and his son, Benjamin Allen Cohen was born on the 4th of February 2019. He is concentrating on raising his son as a single parent but is open to being with someone that is willing to commit to a life of co-parenting.

Andy Cohen’s Previous Relationships

Andy has admitted that although it is a good thing that the New York senate finally decided to vote to legalize same-sex marriage, he is ‘mad’ that it took so long for it to finally be passed. He believed that things would have been different if this option was available when he just left college. He admits that he probably would have been married by now.

Andy, who has been in the news for being romantically linked with several guys over the years, has admitted that some of the stories are untrue. One of the few confirmed relationships Andy Cohen has openly had is with Clifton Dassuncao, who is an Environmental Health Scientist and Epidemiologist. He is also a Harvard Ph.D. graduate.

They met on Barry Diller’s $150 million-yacht and fell in love. It appeared that things between them were getting pretty serious, with Andy hinting at marriage before their relationship abruptly came to an end. The relationship lasted for two years (2016- 2018) and it is not known what led to their breakup.

What’s His Relationship With Anderson Cooper?

Another popular individual that Andy Cohen has been linked to is Anderson Cooper. The pair met in the early ’90s when they were set up on a blind date. Although the date never happened after they spoke on the phone, they have gone ahead to become best friends and even have their own speaking tour “AC2: An Intimate Evening with Anderson Cooper & Andy Cohen – Deep Talk and Shallow Tales.”

They have appeared in several cities in sold-out theatres year in year out.  While several people continue to nudge the best friends to go ahead and have a romantic relationship, it appears that it might never happen as Andy shared that they have been best friends for more than 25 years and have mutual love and respect for each other.
