The Footloose actress was born on the 6th day of November 1957 and was given the name Lori Singer at birth. Her birth took place in Corpus Christ, Texas and she is the daughter of Jacques Singer and his wife, Leslie Singer. Her father was a talented virtuoso violinist, music educator, and orchestra conductor while her mother is a concert pianist. She grew up in Texas along with her brother named Marc Singer who has equally established himself as an actor. Lori was raised a Jewish and she is also a cousin to the famous American director and producer, Bryan Singer.

Growing up, Lori was trained as a cellist at The Julliard School, a performing arts school located in New York City. By the time she was 13, she made her debut as a soloist with the Oregon Symphony.
