Mackenzie Bourg Biography (Age, and other Background Info)

Mackenzie Bourg was born on September 11, 1992, in Lafayette, Louisiana to Rudy Bourg and Michelle Arceneaux. Though he is now pursuing a career in music, sports was Bourg’s first love. During his days at Lafayette’s St. Thomas More High, he was an active basketball player, but then something happened that truncated his sports career and forced him to think of other things.

Bourg was nearly killed by a viral infection that caused him to have congestive heart failure. In plain English, what that means is that Bourg’s heart was unable to effectively pump enough blood to maintain the body flow and to sustain his body’s needs. Consequently, Bourg was placed in a coma. Fortunately, he was able to recover from the near-fatal experience, but the aftermath saw him kiss basketball and all other forms of athletics goodbye.

Bourg shifted his mind to something else – MUSIC!

“I never thought after playing sports my whole life, that it could be taken from me so fast, but that’s when music really came into focus,” Bourg explained.

Music happens to be a thing in his family, both his brother and uncle have a thing for music. The latter helped build Bourg a custom electric guitar so he could begin learning music with. However, at the time, Bourg was not recovered enough to strike the chords of a guitar. As a result, he began learning the piano and writing songs and he has since never looked back.

‘”I’m not drawn to anything else the way I’m drawn to music,” the singer-songwriter has once confessed.

As his health improved, Bourg went back to playing the guitar, and slowly, he honed his skills and developed at the craft. And then came 2012, and his story got to the ears of the makers of The Voice, a golden opportunity, Bourg grabbed it with both hands and auditioned for the show.

For his Blind Auditions, Mack sang “Pumped Up Kicks” by the rock band, Foster the People. For the competition, he got on Team CeeLo Green. After about three months on the show, Mack was eliminated during the Live Playoffs round where he sang One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful.” Mack earned a fan base called the “MacPack.”

After leaving the show, Mac kept developing himself and during the season 15 of American Idol, he auditioned at Atlanta, Georgia, singing a medley of songs by the judges. The medley included Keith Urban’s “Stupid Boy” and “Making Memories of Us”, ‘s Love Don’t Cost a Thing and Harry Connick, Jr.’s “Come by Me.” It did wow the judges who gave him a ticket to Hollywood.

During the show’s second solo round, Bourg introduced his song Roses to the world. He sang the song again during the Top 14 wildcard episode. Bourg made it past the top 5 before being eliminated at 4th place, after being placed bottom two.

He released his single “Roses” under Big Machine Records on April 7, 2016. The song peaked at number 2 on the iTunes Top Songs chart. In December 2017, he released another single “Lost & Found,” which peaked atop the iTunes Singer-Songwriter charts and also featured on the Billboard charts. He has also done a duet, Carnival with Skyler.

Height: 5 feet 8 inches (1.73 m).
