Maluma, also known as Juan Luis Londono Arias was born on 24 January 1994 to Marlli Arias (Mother) and Luis Fernando Londono (father) in Medellin, Colombia. Growing up, he has no brothers, just an older sister named Manuela Londono Arias.

It was quite obvious as a kid that Maluma was an athletic child; he displayed a keen interest in football and was opportune to compete in the lower divisions of Atletico National and Equidad Sports Club. Alongside his interest in soccer, Maluma also showed interest in singing at an early age and was well known in high school as a singer with great vocals. This made people encourage him to participate in local singing contests.

In 2012, his career got a boost after the release of the single titled Farandulera. It became a big hit and was aired over radio stations in Colombia. This led to Sony Music and it’s subsidiary label Music Colombia picking interest in signing a contract with him to record his first studio album. Before the album was released, the label launched another of his single titled Loco which was also a big success.

His debut studio album, Magia was released in 2012 and was certified gold in Colombia. The first single on the album was titled Obsession and the video was shot at the Antioquia Department Railway Station. It starred the stunning Colombia model, Lina Posada.

Since the release of the video, it has received over 200 million views on YouTube. Other singles from the album like Miss Independent and Pasarla were also successful. Miss Independent got to number 2 on the national report songs chart. Above all, the album paved a way for him to be nominated as Best New Artist for 2012 Shock award.

2014 saw Maluma doing a collaboration with Elvis Crespo for the 2014 FIFA World Cup theme song titled Ole. In the same year, he appeared as both coach and judge in The Voice Kids Show. He was also requested to host 2014 Kids Choice Award in Colombia.

In 2015, he released his second studio album titled Pretty Boy, Dirty Boy. The album which was produced by Walter Kolm appeared on Top 10 Billboard of Hot Latin Songs. The following year, Maluma did collaborations with , Thalia, and Ricky Martins. The song Chantaje which he did with Shakira shot up to number one on Hot Latin Songs chart and was viewed over a billion times.
