Marc Marquez Bio
Marc Marquez was born on 17th February 1993 in Cervera, Spain and raised in the same town located about 60km from Lleida. At the tender age of four, he requested for a motorbike for Christmas from his parents and his request was granted him. 3 years later and at the Motocross Catalan Championship, Marc emerged the runner-up. When he turned 9, he began to take part in Open RACC 50’s road racing; he also won the competition that year.
Marc was very much light in weight, it is said that a 21 kg weight had to be attached to his bike in order to meet the required minimum weight. Subsequently, a 16 kg worth of lead was required for his 125cc motorbike. This led to his teammates’ comparison of him with an ant. To them, Marc’s ability to handle bikes more than twice his weight is very similar to an ant’s expertise in lifting loads excessively larger than it.
The biker also possesses to his credit a sacrificial spirit, great perseverance, an ability to cope, work, and corporate with a team. These qualities influenced his decision to officially adopt ‘The Ant’ as his mascot. Till date, it serves as a reminder to him that hard work pays and helps bring home the victory every time he goes on the track.
Marc’s first championship was at the Portuguese Grand Prix (125cc) on 13th April 2008. In 2009, at the British Grand Prix, he became the youngest Rider from Spain to take a podium in a world championship motorcycle racing event. At Mugello, his first win came on June 6, 2010, and subsequent wins at Silverstone, Assen, and Catalonia made him the youngest motorbiker to win four consecutive races. Almost immediately, a win at Sachsenring made Marquez the first rider to gain victory at five consecutive races in the 125cc category since the 1997 ’s win.
In 2011, he entered the Moto2 class and had his first win at the French Grand Prix. Marc’s last win in the Moto2 class was at the Valencian Grand Prix at the season’s last event, he had the biggest comeback in the history of the sport when he overtook 20 bikes on just the first lap. The biker set a record which still holds for the category by finishing the season with nine race wins.
Marc moved on to the Repsol Honda team in MotoGP on July 12, 2012, when an announcement was made that he had agreed officially to contract for two years as a replacement for Casey Stoner who was retiring. In the 2013 season, he won the new Circuit of the Americas in Texas and became the youngest person ever to win a MotoGP race, topping Freddie Spencer’s record of 30 years at age of 20.
This dude has had a lot of other wins. Since his debut in the 2013 premier class, Marc Marquez and his Repsol Honda teammates have remained together, going on to win 4 world championships together. Like every other sports person, Mr. Marquez has also had his fair share of losses, crashes, and injuries. He had the world’s fastest crash in 2013 when he crashed at a speed of 198 mph in Mugello but luckily it wasn’t fatal.
His Salary and Net Worth
In 2014, Marc moved to Andorra in a bid to evade the huge 49% tax he would have faced in Spain. Sometime in December that year, he signed a new deal with Repsol Honda rumored to be 10 million euros per year. This year (2018) he is also rumored to have signed about 12.5 to 15 million euros new deal with them. So, although his net worth isn’t certain, we know it’s a huge figure
