He grew up in Oakland which saw him attending McClymonds High School where he began playing football as a cornerback, wide receiver, and kicker as well as ran track. The kid was so good at playing football from such an early age that he got named the Most Valuable player of Oakland Athletic League as he led his teammates to a perfect and first ever 12-0 winning record. Similarly, he wasn’t found wanting in track and field events either as he recorded a personal best time of 10.87s in the 100 meters race and 22.91s in the 200 meters race; both at the Oakland Athletic League Championship as a senior.

Coming into his junior season (2014) things went awry for the Oakland born footballer.

He was first suspended for a sideline tantrum by his team’s head coach Chris Petersen and as if that was not enough, he went on to get involved in an argument with the team’s assistant coaches in their practice session on November 5, 2014. This posed a disciplinary issue for the team and it was for this reason that he got dismissed from the Washington Huskies as went wild about it. Well, like most youths his age and probably every other responsible adult, Marcus was reportedly remorseful following his suspension and admitted that some of his decisions at college were immature and they hurt him.

He got drafted in the NFL as the 18th overall in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. His rookie contract was a four-year deal worth $9 million which included a $5 million signing bonus. With this contract, his annual average salary was over $2 million.
