Mark Harmon Bio (Age)

Mark Harmon was born Thomas Mark Harmon, the youngest of three children to Tom Harmon and Elyse Knox on the 2nd of September 1951 in Burbank, California. His father Tom was an American Football player who won the Heisman Trophy in 1940 and played for the Los Angeles Rams before going on to become a sports broadcaster. On the other end, his mother Elyse was an actress, a model, and fashion designer. He is of Irish, French, German, and Austrian ancestry.

Harmon attended Harvard-Westlake High School where he graduated from in 1970. From there, he attended Pierce College where he completed a two-year associate degree before enrolling at the University of California, Los Angeles. During this time, Harmon had followed in his father’s footsteps to play football as a quarterback. He had made the 1971 All-American selection for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) so it was not a surprise that once he was in UCLA, his talents earned him a starting position on the Bruins football team.

Mark Harmon notably helped his school to a 17-5 record in his two years there, earning Second-team Academic All-America honors as well as the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award since he graduated with a cum laude Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications.

After leaving college, Harmon contemplated pursuing a career in law, advertising or business, but later switched to become an actor. His first acting role was in an episode of Ozzie’s Girls (1973) after which he guest appeared in a number of series, including episodes of Adam-12 and Police Woman in 1975. In 1977, his role as Robert Dunlap in the television film, Eleanor and Franklin: The White House Years earned him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor. Harmon continued to bag supporting roles in the coming years until he landed a role in the Flamingo Road (1980). The show lasted for two seasons before it was canceled, giving room for Harmon to move to the medical drama St. Elsewhere in 1983.

Mark Harmon’s profile was at an all-time high in the late 80s as he was named People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive and starred in movies like Prince of Bel Air (1986) The Deliberate Stranger (1986), and Stealing Home (1988). In the 90s, Harmon took up roles in series like Reasonable Doubts (1991–1993) and Chicago Hope (1996-2000) before landing his career-defining role in NCIS.

His Net Worth

Mark Harmon, as of 2018, is said to have an estimated net worth of $90 million. This should not come as a surprise since he is among the highest-paid actors on television as it is reported that he takes home about $525,000 per episode of NCIS and also earns residual income from reruns of the show.

In 2016 alone, Harmon was said to have made over $20 million. That figure reduced, although not significantly, in 2017 as he reportedly made $19,000,000.

Health Status

Rumors about Mark Harmon being in frail health was started by fans of NCIS who noticed that the actor had lost a lot of weight and was looking thinner than usual. The story caught more fire after news surfaced that Harmon was looking to leave the long-running show to care for himself. Neither Harmon nor his representatives have confirmed the story so all that is known is purely speculation. Either way, the actor continues to appear on the show which he now serves as a producer and executive producer.

Mark’s Family, Wife, and Children

It is not impossible, however, it is very rare to see a couple in Hollywood stay together for over two decades. Mark Harmon and his wife Pam Dawber have made a point to be a part of that rare breed as they have not just been married for one decade but three.

The couple, who are both reputable actors in their own respect, exchanged vows in March 1987. Since that time, both parties have rarely been seen together in public and are notoriously known for keeping things about their marriage and family life private. Together, Harmon and Dawber have two sons: first is Sean Thomas Harmon, an aspiring actor who was born on the 25th of April, 1988 and then Ty Christian Harmon who was born on the 25th of June, 1992.
