Spending time in the cold wilderness of the Alaskan Mountain range is hardly ever a thought that crosses the mind of many people. The cold out there is bone-chilling but that doesn’t mean that no one ever goes there, in fact, a couple of men partly earn their living by starring in a television series titled Mountain Men which is primarily shot in the location. One of such men is Marty Meierotto whose biography you are going to read about here.
Marty on the show is a fur trapper who uses his traps to catch animals for their furs. When he is not doing that, he often spends his time in saving others from getting frosted in the cold. In the summer, he works as a Jumper for the Alaskan Fire Service which is in a way, still saving lives. There is still a lot more to know about him, starting with his background.
Who is Marty Meierotto and How Old is He
Marty Meierotto was born many years ago in North Wisconsin. His father was a trapper who did well to teach him how to go about trapping animals. When Marty was as young as 7, his dad took him to far north Wisconsin where he saw his traps, learned how to check for animals and every other thing that had to do with trapping. From this, Meierotto’s interest in trapping began to grow and as he got older, he decided to carve out a career in trapping animals for their fur. Since then, he hasn’t looked back.
He first went about his trapping venture in Wisconsin after he finished high school, but being that there were many trappers in Wisconsin and a limited supply of fauna to catch, Marty Meierotto didn’t record much success as a fur trapper there, thus he decided to relocate 100 miles away from south of the Arctic circle with all his savings and personal belongings alongside his brother, Jeff Meierotto in the year 1985.
On his arrival at Alaska, Marty first worked as a janitor in Fairbanks and at other times he made ends meet by working as a logger and in construction. By doing these, he was able to raise enough money to buy the tools he needed to make his fur traps as well as buy his first tent. Marty at first could only go to trap animals in his free days but over time, he got more and more thrilled in fur trapping till he decided to dedicate himself fulltime to trapping animals for fur.
In doing this, Marty Meierotto got relatively famous and it wasn’t long before the producers of the American reality television series on the History channel titled Mountain Men came asking him to feature on their television series. He accepted and has become a lot more famous since then. Marty appears on the show alongside the likes of , Charlie Tucker, Tom Oar, Morgan Beasley, , Charlie Tucker, and Kyle Bell.
On the show, the fur trapper has his abode in Two Rivers which is a small Alaskan town in Fairbanks North Star Borough, Alaska with his wife and daughter. Once every month, he flies his two-seat, single-engine monoplane (Piper PA-18 Super Cub) to Draanjik River in the Alaska North Slope where he has his cabin. There, Meierotto uses a snowmobile to attend to his animal traps and collect furs.
He normally does this from November to March every year and when he is not collecting fur, he helps keep other casts of the show safe from getting frosted. From April to October, he then works as a smokejumper for the Alaskan fire service. This job reportedly pays Marty Meierotto very well.
Family Life
The fur trapper is married to a woman named Dominique. The couple has a daughter who they named Noah and they all live in Two Rivers, Alaska when Marty is not trapping animals in the freezing mountains of Alaska. Some time ago, he began building a new log cabin large enough to contain more supplies and accommodate his family’s visits.
Details of His Net Worth
Marty Meierotto is one of those who derive a lot more satisfaction in doing what they love doing rather than the monetary benefits that come with doing such a job. He is not the richest reality star with his net worth between $150,000 to $250,000 but from all indication, he derives a lot more joy in doing what he loves doing more than his finances can point to.
