Mason Plumlee is a well-known basketball player who started out professionally with the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association, NBA, after the team selected him in the 2013 NBA draft.
The American who was twice an All-State pick is currently playing as a power forward and center for the Denver Nuggets. But as a freshman in Duke University (2009-2010) Mason Plumlee played as a back-up forward, alongside his older brother Miles, for the Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team’s national championship team. Plumlee is credited as a member of the United States national team who competed in the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Born on March 5, 1990, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Mason Alexander Plumlee was raised by parents who were basketball players. His father Perky is a lawyer who was a former Tennessee Tech basketball player, and his mother Leslie is a pharmacist, who was a former Purdue basketball player. Plumlee’s all three siblings are also full-time athletes. All the three brothers played for Duke University; his brother Miles Plumlee is currently playing for the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA; Marshall Plumlee is also a professional basketball player in the NBA, and his sister Madeleine Plumlee is a volleyball player for the University of Notre Dame.
Growing up in Indiana, Plumlee attended Warsaw Community High School and later transferred to Christ School in Arden, North Carolina after his freshman year. While at the latter school, he participated actively in basketball and helped lead the team to a record three North Carolina High School Athletic Association state championships.
NBA Career
Plumlee committed to play for Duke right after higher school, side by side with his brother Miles. While in college, he earned an outstanding reputation in the game which placed him well up the radar for NBA draft.
His accolades as an athlete from high school to college include a silver medal with the 2008 USA U18 National Team at the FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship; 2009 McDonald’s All-American as a senior; a Jordan Brand All-American, and a third-team Parade All-American and Slam All-American. Besides being named 2009 North Carolina Mr. Basketball by the Charlotte Observer, Plumlee competed in high jump with an individual best jump of 6 feet 8 inches.
Plumlee signed his rookie-scale contract with the Brooklyn Nets on July 15 after the franchise selected him 22nd overall in the 2013 NBA draft. He played his first game and had his first victory with the Nets on November 15, 2013, against the Phoenix Suns, where he recorded 3 rebound, 7 points 2 assists in a 100 – 98 overtime win.
He stayed at Brooklyn for three seasons (2013 – 2015) and in all, participated in 152 games with 1237 points and had 820 rebounds. Plumlee earned NBA All-Rookie first team honors in the second season to become the first Net since 2009 to earn it.
The Indiana native was traded on June 25, 2015, to Portland Trail Blazers. After three months with the team, the Blazers extended his rookie-scale contract through 2016-2017. He recorded several career high points and rebounds and in 2010, he became the first player to match up to the basketball legend, with eight or more assists and 19 or more rebounds in a playoff game.
During the seasons with the Portland, Mason Plumlee played in 136 games, recording 1,060 rebounds, 1,346 points, and nine victories. While the Portland suffered a loss in a match against the Milwaukee Bucks on December 7, 2016, Plumlee earned a reputation as the fastest Portland player score 150 rebounds and 100 assists in 23 games since 1999-2000. He broke other records including being the first Blazers forward or center to have a double-double in rebounds and assists since 1984.
Plumlee got traded to the Denver Nuggets on February 13, 2017, along with a 2018 second round draft pick and cash considerations. The team re-signed him after 7 months, precisely on September 20, and so far he has played 74 games with 524 points and 400 rebound to his credit.
