Matheus Luiz Nunes (born August 27, 1998) is a Portuguese footballer who plays as a midfielder for Sporting CP and the national team of Portugal. He spent his entire professional career in Portugal, joining Sporting CP in January 2019 and winning the Primeira Liga in 2020–21. Nunes, who was born in Brazil, represented Portugal at the international level.

Nunes was born in Rio de Janeiro and relocated to Ericeira, Lisbon District, with his mother and stepfather when he was 12 years old. He began playing football with the Ericeirense community and also worked at his family’s bakery for a short time.
Nunes made his senior debut for Ericeirense in the Lisbon Football Association during the 2015–16 season. He began the 2017 preseason on trial with Oriental, however, due to a thigh injury, he was not signed and returned to his first club. In the summer of 2018, Nunes joined Estoril. He made his LigaPro debut on 14 October, beginning but leaving hurt shortly before the end of the first half in a 2–2 draw against Varzim. He spent the majority of his time with the reserve team.

Nunes signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with Sporting CP of the Primeira Liga for €500,000 with a €60 million buyout clause on January 29, 2019. On 4 June 2020, he made his debut appearance in the competition, coming on as a second-half substitute in Vitória de Guimares’ 2–2 draw.

Nunes acquired his Portuguese passport on August 8, 2021, after ten years in the nation. Late that month, on his 23rd birthday, he was called up by Brazil national team manager Tite as one of nine replacements for players based in the United Kingdom for three 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chile, Argentina, and Peru; however, he ultimately chose not to represent his birth country.

Portugal summoned Nunes on September 30, 2021. On the 9th of October, he earned his first cap, starting a 3–0 friendly triumph over Qatar in the Algarve.
