Her Appearance on Toyota Car Commercial and Meteoric Rise to Fame

In the commercial, she portrayed the role of a receptionist named Jan and her outstanding performance earned her the nickname ‘Toyota Jan’. The advert was so well accepted that she had people calling her to know the next clearance sale of the company.

Following the huge financial gain the advertisement brought to the company, Toyota decided to use her again for a second commercial – Science Project.  Due to the fact that the concept of Laurel’s Toyota ads character, Jan, appealed to a wide audience, the car company not only dubbed her voice-over for its international markets, but it also created a similar character to Jan named Mariela. Portrayed by Tiffany Diaz, Mariela is everything like Jan except that she speaks Spanish and is not as funny.
