Facts About Chris Long’s Wife

1. Megan O’Malley didn’t start out with lacrosse

After she obtained her admission into the University of Virginia, Megan didn’t join the lacrosse team right away. This was an unexpected decision, considering the fact that she was a gifted lacrosse player in high school. Her efforts on her high school team had even won her a spot on the US All-American lacrosse team for two years in a row, in 2003 and 2004.

Megan narrates how she opted for softball instead in her freshman year. During this time, she used to walk by the lacrosse team practicing on her way back from softball practice. Watching them play fueled her resolve to try out for the team.

It didn’t take her long to get on the team. By her sophomore year, Megan was an integral part of the UVa Women’s State championship lacrosse program. In 2006, she was also selected as part of the US National development team. Nowadays, she is content being a stay at home mom while she cheers Chris on as he fights it out on the gridiron.

2. Megan and Chris come from sporting families

Just in case you were wondering where Megan got her love for sports from, the answer is in her genes. Megan O’Malley comes from a family mad about sports, so maybe that’s part of the reason she clicked with Chris Long, seeing as he too has the sports bug in his genes.

Megan’s father, Joe, was a professional baseball player. He was part of the playing roster of the Atlanta Braves team in the late 1970s. Megan’s sister, Katie, also played college basketball during her time at John Hopkins University. Her brother, whose name hasn’t been revealed, followed after their father and plays baseball. This sports bug extends beyond her immediate family as she also has uncles who were active in sports.

As for her husband’s side of the equation, Chris’ father is the famous . Howie played as a defensive end for the Los Angeles Raiders (now Oakland Raiders) his entire career and is a Pro Football Hall of Famer. Chris immediate younger brother, is an offensive lineman for the NFL’s Chicago Bears, the third son of the family, Howie Jr., works as a member of staff for his father’s former team, the Oakland Raiders.

3. O’Malley is an Eagles fan

This shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone, giving that her husband is on the team. However, that isn’t why she is a fan of the NFL franchise.

Megan O’Malley was a die-hard fan of Philadelphia long before she met Chris, before she went to high school, and probably before elementary school too. Simply put, she grew up flying the team’s flag and cheering them on, an assertion which Chris himself has confirmed.

Long has stated that he let his contract run down so that he could become a free agent and seek to join a new team without any restrictions or conditions on contract signing. Chris has always loved the city of Philadelphia, partly because his parents went to school there. But it is hard to argue that it was probably his wife’s love for the Eagles that drove the final nail in his decision to join Philadelphia.
