Groomed from birth by a pastor and a tennis player, acting may have been the last thing on the list of what Melissa Roxburgh wanted to do. Notwithstanding, her parents seem to have supported her interest in the performing arts and even though she didn’t get an early start, she landed her first professional acting role at the age of seventeen.
The Canadian-American actress hit the ground running with her portrayal of Rachel in Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, as well as Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days which remains one of her popular appearances. She is currently evoking a feeling of nostalgia among audiences with her main role as Michaela Stone in NBC supernatural series, Manifest.
Melissa Roxburgh’s Bio
As often misconstrued, Melissa has no family relationship with Australian actor Richard Roxburgh, despite the similarity in their names. She does have a brother whose name is Matt, as well as two sisters named Kristie and Ashley.
Melissa Roxburgh was born as the second child of the family on December 10, 1992. Her father serves as a pastor while her mother used to be a Wimbledon tennis player but later teamed up with her husband to start a church in Vancouver.
Asides her Canadian nationality, Melissa is also an American national as her father is originally from Chicago.
5 Things You Need To Know About The Actress
1. Film Credits
Fresh out of high school, Melissa Roxburgh knew which career she wanted to go into and thus, she hired an agent and it didn’t take long before she was cast in her first role. Her first notable film credit came in Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules where she was cast as Rachel in 2011 and she followed it up the next year with a different role in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid sequel, Dog Days – this time, she was cast as Heather Hills.
She has also played significant roles in several other films including Big Time Movie as Princess (2012), Leprechaun: Origins as Jeni (2014), The Marine 4: Moving Target as Loivia Tanis (2015), Star Trek Beyond as Ensign Syl (2016), as well as Lost Solace as Azaria, also in 2016.
2. Television Career
She has equally built a robust career on television, starting with the Supernatural spinoff, Bloodlines as Violet Duval in 2014. CW network, however, failed to pick up the show which ended up not being aired. Nevertheless, Melissa Roxburgh landed the main role in another CW show titled Valor. Her role as Thea on Valor lasted from 2017 to 2018 before the show was canceled, just after one season and 13 episodes. The cancellation didn’t spell doom for Melissa but availed her the opportunity to fill her current role as Michaela Stone in Manifest; she has remained on the show to date.
Other television appearances made by the actress can be traced to The Tomorrow People where she played Talia in one episode, Legends of Tomorrow as Betty Seaver (one episode), Travelers as Carrie, and Sorority Murder as Carly (television film).
3. She Would Have Been a Journalist
Prior to bagging a spot on the hit series Manifest, Melissa Roxburgh took classes in the Department of Communications at Simon Fraser University. Her plan at the time was to pursue a career as a journalist. That aspiration must have gone down the drain when she made the cast of Manifest, although we can’t entirely rule out the possibility of seeing her in the journalism profession in the future.
4. Her Net Worth
Still building her career to attain great heights, Melissa has not garnered a lot of wealth yet but is surely a millionaire if the various reports of her having $1 million as her net worth can be trusted.
