Molly Shannon (Molly Helen Shannon) was born on the 16th day of September 1964 in Shaker Heights, Ohio into an Irish American Catholic family. She has as her parents James Francis Shannon; her father who is a sales manager and Mary Margaret her mother who is a teacher. Sadly, at the age of 4, she was involved in a ghastly accident which took the lives of her mother, younger sister, and cousin but she survived.

Growing up, Helen attended St. Dominic School a private school in Shaker Heights, Ohio and later Hawken School in Gates Mills, Ohio before she enrolled in college to study drama at the New York University (NYU). In the year 1987, Molly graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Following her graduation from college, Molly first worked in Cravings restaurant on Sunset Boulevard as a hostess and also at Gelson’s supermarket in Marina Del Rey as a food demo girl. At this time, she began attending film auditions and earned a role in the remake of The Phantom of the Opera as Meg in 1989. Molly Shannon followed this up with a role in the second season of Twin Peaks (1991) as Judy Swain in 1 episode.

Other television roles she starred in at this stage of her career were In Living Color, General Hospital, The John Larroquette Show, and of course her Saturday Night Live appearances in 116 episodes from 1995 till the year 2001. In film, the actress displayed her acting talent in Return to Two Moon Junction, Happiness, Analyze This, and Superstar.
