Nicole Sullivan was born as Nicole Julianne Sullivan on April 21, 1970, in Manhattan, New York, in the United States and is the only child of her parents, Edward Christian Sullivan and Madonna Sullivan. She was raised in by their parents. Her father is a politician – a Democrat – who served as their district representative in the New York State Assembly for 25 years (between 1977 and 2002) while her mother is a career businesswoman. Her ancestry is a mixed one. She is of both Irish and German ancestry but being born the United States, she has the American nationality and belong to white ethnicity.

Nicole had a talent for arts and it was on display at a very early age. At age 7, she took dance classes and also performed in the Off-Broadway and Broadway theatre productions for children.
