More than being a playmaker for the NBA’s Denver Nuggets, Nikola Jokić has blazed for the Serbian men’s national basketball team. Representing the country at the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, he emerged the MVP of the event and lead his team to the 2016 Olympics.

Here’s a concise account of the NBA star’s biography, including facts about his brothers and body measurements.

Nikola Jokić Bio (Age)

Born in Sombor, Serbia on the 19th of February and in the year 1995, it is widely held that this Serbian professional basketballer has all the time he needs to attain whatever he desires in NBA. Raised in a small town located in the northwest of Serbia, Nikola spent a great deal of time riding horses and shooting hoops. As he has two older brothers who played basketball, it was only natural for the sport to grab his interest. He became known as a basketballer in his hometown and that marked the beginning of his career.

After he turned 16, he joined the Belgrade-based basketball team, Mega Bemax and appeared for the team in both the Adriatic League and the Serbian League. Nikola spent his first season with Mega, playing for its junior team but his performance made it possible for him to become a regular feature in the senior team the next season. It is on record that he averaged 2.5 assists, 6.4 rebounds, and 11.4 points for each game he played for the team between 2012 and 2015. In 2005, he received the Adriatic League Top Prospect award and was equally honoured as the league’s most valuable player.

Nikola Jokić’s NBA journey started in 2014 after he was picked by the Denver Nuggets with the 41st overall selection of the year’s NBA Draft. He wasted no time in proving his worth one season later when he started playing for the team. For his remarkable rookie campaign, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team of 2016. In addition to that, Nikola was able to emerge third in the voting for the NBA Rookie of the Year Award.

The Serbian didn’t drop his bar the next season. Among other things, he pulled off a six triple-doubles and was voted a runner-up for the 2017 NBA Most Improved Player Award. That’s not all, he was equally a runner-up for the Assist of the Year honour. The 2017-18 season saw him better Jim Tucker’s record of 1955, Nikola pulled off the fastest triple-double in the league’s history. Disregarding this, he was crowned the Western Conference Player of the Week a handful of times. Owing to this, it wasn’t a surprise when the Nuggets decided sometime in July 2018 to hand the centerman a five-year deal extension worth $148 million.

His Brothers

Strahinja and Nemanja are Nikola’s brothers and they have been inseparable in every sense of the word. In fact, it is said that they all live together in a three-bedroom apartment in Denver along with Nikola’s girlfriend, Natalija Macesic.

While the Denver Nuggets’ star is the youngest of the three brothers, Strahinja is the oldest and they are all big fans of the game. Even, Nemanja went as far as playing basketball in college, he played for the University of Detroit Mercy.

The brothers were friends with ex-Serbian professional basketballer, Darko Miličić. Notwithstanding that this story has barely been authenticated, it is believed that being friends with Darko was why Nemanja never got to play at a professional level. As the story goes, he and the former NBA star partied a lot and this jeopardized his chances of having a pro basketball career.

Height, Weight, Body Measurements

Even as there are a good number of basketball players who have excelled professionally without the ideal height and frame, it remains valid that a fine height and physique goes a long way in determining the performance of a player. For this reason, it is expected of NBA stars to maintain a high level of physical fitness. To achieve this, these players prioritize things like having sufficient rest, proper nutrition, and regular physical exercise. The ultimate goal is to nurture such muscle strength and endurance that makes a sturdy and yet flexible player.

Thankfully, Nikola Jokić isn’t one of the players wishing they are taller than they are. He is 10 inches taller than 6 feet (2.08 m) which is practically perfect for his 250 lb (113.4 kg) weight. Other details of his body measurements are yet to be confirmed.
