Noomi Rapace Biography

Swedish actress Noomi Rapace who was born on the 28th of December 1979, hails from Hudiksvall, Gävleborgs Län. She grew up with her only sister and sibling, Særún Norén and was raised by their parents whose marriage ended when she was just five. Her mother, Nina Norén was also a Swedish actress at the time while on the other hand, her father, Rogelio Durán was a songwriter and singer who hails from Spain.

Noami Rapace had her education at the Stockholm Theater School and Skara Skolscen acting school respectively.

Career Timeline

Prior to been famous, the Swedish actress started her acting career from the scratch at the very young age of seven. Her first role in a movie was a minor one – a non-speaking role – in the movie In the Shadow of the Raven. After her role in the movie, Noomi Rapace developed an immense passion for acting and this made her enroll in a theatre school.

In 1966, she earned her first appearance in a television series in Tre Kronor in which she casted as Lucinda Gonzale, after which she recused herself from the spotlight to study in other theatre schools which lasted for more than a decade. She, however, returned in 2007 to play the role of a young mother in the Danish movie Daisy Diamond and her stunning performance in this movie bagged her dual high ranked awards in Denmark – the Bodil and Robert prize for best actress in the movie.

Two years later, she made an appearance in a movie that was an adaptation of the popular novel The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, wherein she played Lisbeth Salander which earned her another award high profile award. She won the Guldbagge Award, one of Sweden’s high ranking movie award, and also made it to the BAFTA Award and European Film Award nomination. Noomi Rapace also made an appearance in The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest, playing the same role as Lisbeth Salander.

Her first English movie was Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows where she played the role of Madame Simza Heron. The movie, which was produced in 2011 launched Noomi Rapace into the arena of international fame and recognition and saw her appear in top-notch movies like Passion as Isabelle, Dead Man Down as Beatrice, The Drop as Nadia, and Child 44 as Raisa Demidova. She was also featured in the film Rupture as Renee and in recent time as Sam Carlson in Close which was bought by Netflix and launched in 2018.

Coming to her love life, the Noomi Rapace was once married back in 2001 to her former lover, Ola Rapace, a Swedish actor who was born with the full name Pär Ola Norell. It was after their marriage that the duo decided to answer the name Rapace, which means Bird of Prey in both France and Italy.

They decided on the name because they thought it was a very nice name to bear. Noomi and Ola had a son together, Lev, who was born two years after their marriage, but unfortunately, after some years of marriage, the union started having issues and in 2011, they decided to split ways.
