Patrick Kane Bio

He was born on November 19, 1988, in Buffalo, New York to Donna (mother) and Patrick Kane Sr. (father). As a child, he was always drawn to hockey games. Before he was 10, he started participating in several hockey competitions while he gradually nurtured his inclination to pursue the sport as a career. One of the teams he played for as a teenager was the USA Bobcats where he was adjudged the MVP.

Starting out his junior league career, Patrick Kane played in the Midwest Elite Hockey League for Detroit’s popular Honeybaked AAA club. After spending three years with the club, he went on to join the Ontario Hockey League after being drafted by the London Knights in 2004. He spent the following two seasons with the United States U-18 National Team Development Program (NTDP) before he joining the Knights in the 2006/07 season. He finished off the season by bagging the Emms Family Award for rookie of the year.

Before the 2007 NHL draft, many teams showed interest in Patrick Kane who was one of the best hockey players around. He was soon selected by the Chicago Blackhawks as first overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Kane was immediately signed to a 3-year contract with the team. Making his debut in October 2007, he recorded his first shootout goal in the game against Minnesota Wild on October 4. Towards the end of his rookie contract, Patrick’s deal was extended by five years to the tune of $31.5 million in December 2009.

He sustained a leg injury in March 2014 and missed the rest of the regular season. But this did not stop him from recording a team-high 20 points in 19 games with eight goals and 12 assists in the postseason when he returned.
