Empire is without a doubt, one of the most popular shows on television today. The American television series which debuted on the 7th of January, 2015 focuses on the Lyon Family, a New York-based family of music moguls and their struggle for the control of their fictional music and entertainment company. The show’s plot begins when the family’s patriarch, Lucious Lyon, is diagnosed with ALS. Knowing he doesn’t have long to live, he decides to pit his sons against each other for the right to control the company after his death.

The series premiere pulled in 10 million viewers and by the first season finale, 17 million viewers were tuned in. Considering the show was an instant success, it was immediately renewed for a second season and it has continued to impress since then.
