Paula Jai Parker – Bio

The multi-talented actress was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 16, 1969. She moved to Washington DC in 1987 to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Arts at the famous Howard University.

Paula tried out a whole lot of things as regards her career and that’s why her awards can fill a whole book. After graduating from Howard University, she moved to New York so she could perform in comedy clubs. Between 1992 and 1993 Paula performed at the famous Fox comedy titled the Apollo comedy hour, she also filmed live at the Apollo Theater and afterward was a cast member on the now extinct live show  Townsend Television.

She made her first Career debut in the movie Cosmic Shop where she played a role as Tang and afterward won herself the Cable ACE  award for best actress in a drama in 1994. As if on cue,  Paula was lucky again in the following year, when she made an appearance on the urban comedy movie called Friday playing the role of Joi.

Paula Jai Parker Subsequently became a sort out actress making appearances in a lot of movies and songs in the 1990s. Some of them include as Sissy Johnson in the horror anthology ‘Tales from the hood’ in 1995, as a Drunk Party girl in the movie ‘Don’t  be a menace to North Central’ in 1996; also in 1996 she featured in ‘Get on the bus’ acting as Jamila, then as Lisa in the movie ‘Riot’ in 1997, also as Adina in the urban comedy ‘Sprung’ in the same year.

In 1998, she featured in the movie ‘Always outnumbered’, as Claudette in the romantic comedy ‘Woo’i n 1998, as Paula King in ‘Why do fools fall in love’, as Ann in ‘The Break’ (1999). Paula was the girl Stephanie in ’30 years to life’ in 2001, she starred as Gracie in ‘High life’s in 2001, also as Felicia in ‘Phone Booth in 2002. When we thought we had seen enough of her, in 2003 Paula Jai Parker wowed us again as Sara in ‘Love Chronicles’, as Rolonda in ‘My baby’s  Daddy’s, as Evelyn in the comedy-drama ‘She hates me’ both in 2004. She also played Ruth Brown in the biological film ‘Ray’ in 2004.

She has starred in several other movies including ‘Animal’, ‘Idlewild’, ‘Genius Club’, ‘King of the Underground’, ‘Cover’, ‘Life of a King’ and lots more. In fact, Paula has featured in more movies than anyone can even remember.

Paula Jai Parker won the women film critic circle award for Best comedic performance in the movie ‘Hustle & Flow’ in 2005. Apart from acting, she also sings, directs and writes songs.
