The film producer was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the United States on March 1, 1942. He attended John Ward Elementary School and Newton North High School before moving on to Syracuse University where he enrolled in the pre-law curriculum. He would later enroll at New York University, where he earned his J.D. and LL.M. law degrees while studying for his MBA at night.

Going forward, he formed the PolyGram’s motion picture and television division and later served as the co-owner of the Guber-Peters Company (GPC) along with producer Jon Peters. A decade after, he merged GPC with game show production company Barris Industries and the latter was renamed to Guber-Peters Entertainment Company (GPEC) the following year. Acquainted with businesses merger and acquisition, Peter Guber’s GPEC was acquired by Sony Corporation.

Afterward, Peter Guber formed his own entertainment company, Mandalay Entertainment in 1995 where he serves as the chairman and CEO. The company which is a joint venture with Sony Corporation has its interest in motion pictures, television, sports entertainment and digital media. In a further prudent move, he joined a partnership which purchased Dick Clark Productions from Red Zone Capital Management. In addition, he is a professor at UCLA School of Theater, Film, Television and Digital Media as well as teaches at UCLA’s Anderson School of Management.
