One interesting fact about this animation is that it is not meant for any child as the show is characterized by the unapologetic use of profane and swear words. The animation also addresses major political, cultural and social issues that cannot be understood by children. It is set in the fictional town of South Park in the American state of Colorado. It is centered on the activities of four 4th graders; they used to be 3rd graders (season 1) but have been in 4th grade since the second season of the TV show.

In 2002, an insect mutation was named after one of the shows reoccurring character, Kenny, notorious for dying in most of the episodes.

South Park is known for its 4 main characters, Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, and Kenny McCormick. These are the most popular characters on the show. Most of the characters are voiced by the show’s creators – Trey Parker and Matt Stone. To keep things interesting, we will also be discussing the most prominent female character, Wendy Testaburger on the show and the voice(s) behind her character.

Trey Parker as Eric Cartman

Eric Cartman is arguably the most popular character on the show. This character began appearing on screen though in a prototypical form, first in the short animations created by Trey and Matt – Jesus vs. Frosty (1992) – and then Jesus vs Santa in 1995. He appeared first on South Park on August 13, 1997, marking its pilot episode. Eric is popularly called by his surname. He is arrogant, amoral, manipulative, egocentric, and prejudiced. He is also extremely sociopathic and psychopathic. However, he is also very intelligent and possesses entrepreneurial skills.

He is an elementary school student in a South Park, Colorado. He has a father, mother, and a half-brother. The story of the South Park revolves around the extraordinary experiences him and his friends have. This character is voiced by , a popular American actor, animator, writer, producer, director, and composer. He is also the co-creator of this iconic television program.

Trey Parker as Stan Marsh

Another main character of South Park is Stan Marsh and he is also voiced by Trey Parker. Stan is described as being kind-hearted, intelligent, trustworthy and patient. He also appeared on the first episode of South Park titled “Cartman Gets an Anal Probe.” Stan Marsh also experiences extraordinary events as a 4th grader of an elementary school in South Park, Colorado. He has an on and off romantic relationship with another popular South Park character, Wendy Testaburger.

Matt Stone as Kyle Broflovski

Kyle Broflovski is also one of the main characters in South Park. Kyle is one of the four popular South Park characters. He is also a fourth-grader in Colorado’s elementary school. Like Cartman, Kyle also made his first appearance on Jesus vs Frosty (1992). Kyle is Jewish, this makes him feel like an outsider among the four friends. His traits include profanity and the highest level of intelligence and morality among the boys.

Broflovski is a character voiced and loosely based on co-creator, Matt Stone. Like his friend and long-time colleague, Trey Parker, Matt is also an actor, animator, writer, producer, and composer. He is also popular for the production of The Book of Mormon (2011).

Matt Stone (and several others) as Kenny McCormick

The last of the four boys is Kenny McCormick. Kenny is a short boy from a poverty-stricken family with a hood that covers most parts of his face. He usually speaks incorrigibly because of his muddled face. Kenny is also notorious for dying. Since the show began until season six, Kenny died in all the episodes. His character only began not dying frequently from the season finale of season six.

His character has been voiced by Matt Stone, Eric Stough, Mike Judge, and Lex Lang. Matt voices him when he is muffled while Eric voices him when he is unmuffled. Mike voiced him in the 1999 movie, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut. Lastly, he was voiced by Lex Lang in the 5th episode of the 22nd season.

April Stewart (and several others) as Wendy Testaburger 

This character is known for her violent behavior as well as being the most prominent female character on the show. Wendy has been involved in burglary, assault, battery, civil unrest, murder for hire, among other violent behaviors. From the beginning of the show she has been voiced by a couple of women, they are Mary Kay Bergman, Eliza J. Schneider, Mona Marshall, and currently April Stewart.
