Rachel Sarah Bilson was born on August 21, 1981, in Los Angeles, California into a show business family. Her Jewish father, Danny Bilson is a writer, producer, and director while her Italian mother, Janice Stango is a sex therapist.

Bilson’s entire extended family are into show business; her paternal grandfather, Bruce Bilson is a producer and director; her great-grandfather George Bilson worked for RKO Pictures as the head of the movie trailer department; then her great-grandmother Hattie Bilson was a screenwriter.

The actress has an older brother and two younger half-sisters, Hattie Elizabeth Bilson and Rosemary Bilson. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1999, where she started acting on stage. Although she enrolled at Grossmont College, she dropped out after a year to pursue a career in acting with the encouragement of her father.
