Professional American football player Randall Cobb joined the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League following the 2011 NFL Draft. Before turning pro, the talented wideout had an illustrious college football career at the University of Kentucky finishing as one of the greatest players in the history of the Kentucky Wildcats.

Age, Early Life, and Rise to Fame

Born on August 22, 1990, Randall Ladonald Cobb II had his high school education at Alcoa High School in Alcoa, Tennessee. As a three-sport athlete, Cobb was lettered in football, basketball, and track. In his junior year, he was named an All-District basketball player and in his senior year, he earned a 3rd place finish in the 100-meter dash at the state meet and also helped the school’s  4 × 100 m relay team to a first runner-up finish.

During his high school days, Randall Cobb played football in both offensive and defensive positions but was mainly dominant as a quarterback. The school had a stint of 4 straight years as State Champions in Class AA with Cobb clinching the Mr. Football Award from the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association.

Cobb had his college education at the University of Kentucky where he played for the Kentucky Wildcats football team. Playing at quarterback, he featured in 11 games as a freshman recording 11 touchdowns, a performance which earned him an SEC All-Freshmen team designation. He transitioned to the wide receiver position in his sophomore season in which he accounted for 15 touchdowns – 4 receiving, 1 returning, and 10 rushing.

The talented player finished his junior season (2010) with 1,017 receiving yards, 424 rushing yards, 58 passing yards with a total 15 touchdowns – 7 receiving, 5 rushing and 3 passing. He equally created a new SEC single-season record for net yardage with 2,396. His outstanding performance earned him first-team All-American designations as well as a consensus first-team All-SEC selection.

At the time of leaving the Kentucky Wildcats, Randall Cobb was the school’s all-time leader in touchdowns (37). Forgoing his senior year of college football, Cobb declared for the 2011 NFL Draft on January 14, 2011. He was selected in the second round by the Green Bay Packers as the 64th overall pick of the draft.

NFL Career

Randall Cobb marked his NFL debut on September 8, 2011, in the Packers’ game against the New Orleans Saints, becoming the first player born in the 1990s to play in the NFL. He finished his rookie season with 25 caught passes for 375 yards and one touchdown. Cobb recorded an even more impressive performance on the special teams as he returned 34 kicks for 941 yards and one touchdown, 26 punt returns for 295 yards and one touchdown.

In his 2012 season, Cobb started 8 games out of 15 total appearances leading the team in receptions (80) and receiving yards (954) in addition to a team second-best 8 touchdowns. He created a single-season Packers franchise record of 2,342 all-purpose yards – 954 receiving, 132 rushing, 964 on kickoff returns and 292 on punt returns including one touchdown. Cobb’s 2013 season was marred by an injury incurred in the week 6 game against the Baltimore Raven after which he finished the season with 31 receptions for 433 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns.

Randall Cobb returned to top form in the 2014 season which he finished with 91 receptions on 126 targets for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns. His performance earned him a selection for the 2014 Pro Bowl. For the 2015 season, the talented player recorded 79 receptions on a career-best 129 targets for 829 yards and 6 touchdowns. He finished the 2016 season with 60 receptions on 84 targets for 610 yards and 4 touchdowns. In the 2017 season, Randall recorded 66 receptions for 653 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Randall Cobb’s wife Aiyda Cobb (née Ghahramani) is an attorney based in Washington DC. Before attending the University of Hampshire School of Law, Aiyda Ghahramani studied at Rutgers State University where she ran track and field.

The couple is reported to have met in 2011 at an EA Sports event held at Manhattan hotspot Lavo. According to Aiyda Ghahramani, they had an instant connection and coincidentally, Cobb was only a few days shy of getting drafted in the 2011 draft. They remained just friends for 3 years until 2014 when their relationship turned exclusive.

After dating for 3 years, the duo made yet another transition as they tied the knot on April 12, 2017, in a lavish ceremony held at The Pierre in New York City. On February 20, 2018, the NFL star announced that they were expecting their first child, a son due in August 2018.

Randall Cobb was born in Maryville, Tennessee to Tina Cobb and Randall Cobb Sr. His mother was a high school track athlete and upon graduation, she worked at an automobile parts factory where she met Cobb’s father.

In addition to his own job at the factory, Randall Cobb Sr. worked several odd jobs to support the family. Growing up, Cobb’s family moved around a lot, living in 7 different houses before the youngster clocked 14. He was raised alongside one sibling, his older brother Michael Love.
