Rashida Jones is an American actress, screenwriter, author, singer and model who shot herself into public reckoning as a 17-year-old when she wrote an open letter to Tupac Makaveli Shakur and calling him out for disrespecting her father, Quincy Jones. She is also known for her work in the TV series Parks and Recreation.

Rashida Jones was born Rashida Leah Jones on February 25, 1976, in Bel Air, Los Angeles, California. Her horoscope is Pisces and she is the youngest daughter of her father Quincy Jones, a renown record producer and musician and her mother, actress Peggy Lipton. Rashida has an elder sister from her mother – Kidada Jones – and five half-siblings from her father – children from marriages/affairs he had with other women. Her parents got divorced when she was only fourteen years old and so she moved to Brentwood with her mother while her sister, Kidada, remained in Bel Air with her father. Her ancestry is a mixed one as a father’s lineage is African-American (with links to Cameroun) and Welsh while her mother Peggy is an Ashkenazi Jew. However, she is an American national and belongs to the black ethnicity.

Rashida was raised in the Bel Air neighbourhood of Los Angeles and attended a Hebrew school but did not graduate from there. She then attended The Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, California where her classmates which included , Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton voted her the “Most Likely To Succeed” because of her exceptional qualities. The actress displayed a flair for the entertainment industry at a young age as she played the piano and wrote songs. At Buckley, Rashida was part of the drama/theatre group under the mentorship of her then drama teacher, Tim Hillman. Rashida Jones, as has been aforementioned has a biological sister who is also an actress. Her sister’s name is Kidada Jones. Her father is the popular Quincy Jones and her mother is Peggy Lipton, born as Margaret Ann “Peggy” Lipton, an actress and former model. Peggy married Quincy Jones in 1974 and it was Quincy’s third marriage. The marriage which was over by 1990, produced two daughters – Kidada Jones and Rashida Jones. Quincy Jones has been married only three times but has seven children with five women.

He married his first wife, Jeri Caldwell in 1957 but they got divorced in 1966. They had one daughter together – Jolie Levine. Rashida Jones’ relationship (not an affair) with Tupac Shakur began on a sour note after the American rapper dissed her father, Quincy Jones in an interview with The Source Magazine for being anti-black movement, marrying only white women and making “fucked up kids”. Rashida, then a 17-year-old girl, came for Tupac and wrote him an open letter in reply. In her letter, she defended her father and slammed the rapper for not showing respect to her father and failing to realize that the sacrifices of her father had paved the way for him (and other black people) to speak up in the first instance. The letter was published in the same magazine that granted Pac the interview and the world marvelled at the wisdom of the 17-year-old Rashida. That altercation would eventually give Tupac access to Rashida’s family, which enabled him to win her over as a friend and also make him date her elder sister, Kidada, who he later was engaged to until his death.
