Robin Skinner is a special and unique kind of musician. He got famous on the internet particularly on YouTube for posting covers of popular songs which he makes with his Ukulele. In addition to this, the youngster has also got a couple of credits for making his own songs.

When he turned 8, his family relocated to Cambridge as his father began working as the Director of Music at Cambridge University. Being born into a family where music is second nature, Robin followed suit and began writing as well as recording his own songs in his bedroom studio when he was just a kid.

In the course of time, he created his YouTube channel on the 24th of November 2012 which he named ‘Cavetown’. On this channel, Robin Skinner began posting covers of popular songs with his first being a Ukulele cover of ‘s Can’t Help Falling in Love with You. With the attention this upload drew to him, Robin was encouraged to do even more and this saw him upload The Judge by Twenty One Pilots, an Alternative/Indie song from their 2015 Blurryface album. Just like his first upload, the second was also praised and so has every other cover song that he recorded and uploaded on the channel.

While developing his musical talents by making cover songs of popular artists, Cavetown also had his eye on doing something for himself someday. His commitment and hard work towards the realization of this got applauded when he released his very first original song which he titled This is Home on July 7, 2015. Within a short time of uploading the song on his eponymous YouTube channel, it garnered thousands of views effortlessly.

From such humble and passionate beginning, Robin Skinner has been able to grow his music career in leaps and bounds. He has equally diversified into creative writing, arts, and graphic design which lays credence to the depth of his talent.

Back to his musical accomplishments, Cavetown has done covers of more than 20 songs of music groups which over the years have been sources of inspiration to his music dreams. Some of such groups include Peach Pit, Pinegrove, Neutral Milk Hotel, and many others. He has to his credit singles like Avalanche (2014), Petrify (2015), Lemon Boy (2017), Just Add Water, Animal Kingdom: Sandy, Animal Kingdom: Comet and Pigeon all in 2018. In 2019, we had from him singles titled Animal Kingdom: Ash, Devinyl Splits No. 11, and Animal Kingdom: Jackson. Certainly, in the years ahead, we believe that more will still come from the talented musician.

Family

Though his parent’s name are not known at the moment, here are a few things we know about them. His father as reports have it, is a Fellow and Director of Music at Cambridge University in addition to which he is also credited as the founder of Alamire, an award-winning music ensemble. On the other hand, Robin Skinner’s mother is a known professional Baroque flutist who has worked with several orchestras one of which is the famous Sir John Eliot Gardiner’s English Baroque Soloists. Aside from his parents, it is not known if he has any other immediate family member as his sibling/s.

Robin Skinner schooled at Parkside Community College which is an Academy school in Cambridge, England from 2010 to 2015 and earned his GCSEs. From 2015 to 2017, Cavetown was at Hills Road Sixth Form College where he passed his AS level courses.

So far, the YouTuber has been able to earn a couple of awards all in recognition of his musical talent. Such awards include Best Acoustic Act 2017, Cambridge Band Competition, and the Songwriter Award 2017, Cambridge Band Competition.
