New Edition was one of the it-boy bands back in the 80s and Ronnie DeVoe was proudly a part of it. He joined as the penultimate member of the -led band. As the story goes, New Edition scored a record deal in 1981 with Maurice Starr’s Streetwise record label after emerging as runners-up in a talent competition.

With four albums released back-to-back, New Edition took the 80s by storm and had all and sundry crooning to their sound. They were easily the best-selling RnB/Hip-hop boy bands of their time.

After New Edition split in the year 1990, DeVoe put together his own band, Bell Biv DeVoe, formed with his fellow New Edition bandmates Ricky Bell and Michael Bivins. DeVoe achieved an impressive success with his band and they continue to make new music to this day. Also since the 1996 reunion with New Edition, DeVoe has been recording with his old squad.

DeVoe’s Age – Is He Truly Older Than His Twin Brothers?

For a long time, all that was known about the New Edition members was mostly about their exploits in music. However, with the release of their three-part miniseries biopic, The New Edition Story which aired on BET in late January 2017, many facts about the band members have come to light, and one of them is about a certain twin brother.

Nope! Ronnie was not born as a twin but alone on the 17th of November 1967 in Boston Massachusettes. However, after the biopic which had a scene that featured Ronnie’s brother (Roland Devoe) laughing at him while he tried to get his moves right for a New Edition audition, a lot of people came to the knowing that Roland is actually a twin with Ronnie’s other brother Robert DeVoe.

It’s been a fact that has been out there since but the world never really took notice, well until that scene in the biopic. Oh! the power of movies. Back in 2012, on the 9th of May to be precise, Ronnie took to his Twitter account to wish his twin brothers a happy birthday. He simply wrote “Happy Birthday 2 my Brothers “Robert Anthony DeVoe” & “Roland Antone DeVoe!” No one on this planet has my back like the #TWINS #DEVOEMOB.”

Touching on how unpopular that tweet was back then, it got a mere 14 retweets and 7 likes. Anyway, In recent years, Ronnie has been posting photos of his twin brothers more frequently.

Another fact that makes the truth unbelievable is that Ronnie looks more youthful than his younger twin brothers, as seen in a recent pic he posted, but you know, Ronnie DeVoe is just one of the of this world.

His Family, Mom, Wife, and Kids

As seen from the way he bonds with his twin brothers, Ronnie’s family is a close-knit one and in Ronnie’s words, they surely have each other’s backs. As a matter of fact, it is his uncle, Brooke Payne (his mom’s brother) who was the choreographer/manager of the New Edition that brought him on to join the boy band as its penultimate member.

Ronnie’s mother Flo DeVoe was also supportive of her son’s foray into music. She was born on September 27th, 1949. In the New Edition biopic, she was portrayed by La La Anthony. Ronnie’s dad Ronald Boyd DeVoe Sr who was born in 1947 is late.

In addition to the twin brothers, Ronnie’s family includes two sisters Regina, and Tonya.

Ronnie has been married to his wife, R&B singer Shamari Fears since 2006. Fears is best known as the lead singer of the girl band Blaque which reached the peak of their success in the 1990s. The band was best known for the song “Bring It All to Me” which was an international hit from their self-titled debut album. The group went quiet for a while before planning a reunion in 2012 which was sadly thwarted by the unfortunate death of one of her members, Reed who died after being hit by a car in Atlanta on October 26, 2012.

Twins run in the DeVoe family, so it didn’t come much as a surprise when the couple announced in February 2017 that they were expecting twins. In November 2017, they welcomed twin boys who already have their own Instagram page, .
