Roxann Dawson, upon her birth on the 11th of September 1964 in Los Angeles, California, was given the name Roxann Caballero. The American actress was born to Richard and Rosalie Caballero. Though Roxann has never revealed her ethnic background, chances are that she has roots from Latin America as her maiden name ‘Caballero’ is common among the Latinx community and means a “knight” or a “horseman” in Spanish.

Dawson is an alumnus of the University of California, Berkeley from where she graduated from in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theater Arts. As with most actresses that studied theater in college, Roxann Dawson immediately began her career after college as a stage actress and her debut role came in a 1982 Broadway production of A Chorus Line. She had roles in a handful of other plays before making her screen debut in an episode of the TV series, Another World.

Dawson then booked guest roles in other TV shows including Baywatch, Matlock, Equal Justice, and Jake and The Fat Man. She had a recurring role in The Round Table and in 1995, she landed what would become her breakthrough role in Star Trek: Voyage. Two years later, Roxann Dawson and her husband welcomed the second member of their family, another daughter – Mia Meicai Dawson, who they adopted from China.
