Ryan Sheckler can trace the immense success of his career back to the day he saw his father’s skateboard at the age of 2. Most people would remember him from his reality series Life of Ryan that premiered on MTV in 2007. Ryan Allen Sheckler was born on December 30, 1989, in San Clemente, California. He was just two years old when he stumbled onto a skateboard in the house. It turned out to be his father’s old skateboard. Ryan’s father, since then, began to push him in the direction of a skateboarding career. His story started at the skate park in the city of San Clemente.
The Californian skater got his first sponsors in 1998. He had been approached by Etnies skate shoe and Oakley, Inc., receiving his first Etnies skating shoes from the former in 1996.
When Almost skateboard company was launched in 2003 by veteran skateboarders Daewon Song and Rodney Mullen, Ryan Sheckler was brought on board as a foundational member and was subsequently elevated to professional status. For the company’s inaugural video Almost: Round Three, Ryan featured with a few other high profile skateboarders including Wilt, Lutzka, and the founders Rodney and Song.
After his time with Almost, he moved on to Plan B Skateboards deck and apparel company. Here, he got to work with the likes of Pat Duffy, Colin McKay, Paul Rodriguez and a host of others. Sheckler has two brothers, Shane and Kane, both of whom are younger than him. He was with Shane at the Etnies complex when he received his first free pair of skating shoes back in 1996.
