Stephanie Courtney is a face that many know, even without giving much attention. She is a comedian and actress who has come to be known for her roles as a film and TV actress, as well as for being the face and voice behind the TV and radio ads of Progressive Corporation in which she takes the persona of the popular fictional character, Flo. She started her career in the entertainment world in 1998 and more than two decades later, she has appeared in more than 50 productions.

It was on February 8, 1970, that Stephanie Courtney was born in Stony Point, New York, U.S. She was brought up alongside her two siblings as the youngest of the three in Stony Point by her parents; a mother who was a singer and a father who worked as a history teacher in a high school.

Stephanie was drawn to acting when she was still a little girl. This passion would sustain through her high school days and through her days at Binghamton University from where she graduated in 1992 with a degree in English. While she was there, the talented actress turned her great passion for acting into a career. She appeared in many productions at that level including The Crucible in which she played Elizabeth Proctor.

Her professor at the university, Tom Kremer would later help her to study theatre after her graduation from Binghamton.

Following her education and with no option of any other career outside of acting, Stephanie Courtney moved to Los Angeles where she stayed with her older sister who is also an actress, Jennifer Courtney. Together with her sister, she wrote the sketch “Those Courtney Girls” which the two performed in Los Angeles as well as at the Aspen Comedy Festival.

She took various odd jobs in order to support herself as she kept auditioning for roles. Fortunately, the gigs started coming and her profile as an actress kept improving. In 2008, she landed the role that made her one of the popular faces on TV commercials, Flo, in Progressive Corporation commercials. Thus far, she has appeared in over a hundred commercials for the brand.

Before she started her career on TV and film, Stephanie Courtney performed in theatres and she also did some commercials which she revealed were not easy to come by and they don’t make much in terms of earnings. However, her role of Flo changed it all for her.

Her first movie role was in Sweet Bird of You (1998) in which she played the role of Kate. This was followed by the portrayal of Alex in the 2003 film Melvin Goes to Dinner and then in 2005 and 2006, she was in Broadcast 23 and For Your Consideration. 2007 was a busy year for her as she was in Blades of Glory, The Brothers Solomon, and The Heartbreak Kid.

In 2009, Stephanie Courtney was in the short films Coco Lipshitz: Behind the Laughter and Christmas Eve: Alaska while in 2010 she was in Fred: The Movie. Her most recent movies are
