Susan Li Bio

Li was born on the 1st day of May 1985 in China. Her parents separated a few years after her birth and in the summer of 1989, her mother moved the family to Toronto, Canada. Growing up, Susan Li watched her mother raise a family on her own and admired her courage and tenacity, especially in a foreign land amidst a new culture. As such, she had a lot to learn from the woman who she has named as her mentor. During her childhood also, she decided to pursue a career in journalism seeing the influence the reports of the unfolding events then had on her family. She is fluent in English but can also flow in Cantonese and Mandarin.

Li attended and graduated from the University of Toronto where she bagged a degree in economics. She got her career start at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as an associate reporter and later became a freelance reporter for both radio and TV, covering various political and consumer topics.

She moved to Beijing where she joined the English language channel of CCTV International (China Central Television) as an anchor in 2003. Li led the primetime world news broadcasts as well as contributed in various roles including hosting Biz China and news editing. During her time on the network, she also conducted interviews with personalities such as Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, the French business magnate and chief executive of LVMH Bernard Arnault, and professional basketball player . As a repatriate, Susan Li was interviewed about what it was like to be living in Beijing after growing up in Canada. She left the network in 2006.

Bloomberg Television

Susan started her Bloomberg career as the host of Asia Business Tonight, Bloomberg’s first primetime evening newscast in the Asia-Pacific region in 2006. Based in Hong Kong, Li was the network’s lead anchor in Asia, hosting the talk shows – Asia Stars, Bloomberg Edge, and Morning Call.

Li was part of Bloomberg International’s global programming as well as the center of its daily business coverage. She reported news from across the globe and interviewed world leaders and top business personalities like Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, Robin Li of Baidu, U.S. Ambassador to China Gary Locke, and American casino developer Steve Wynn. Others include author , Citi CEO Michael Corbat, Credit Suisse’s CEO Brady Dougan, and Blackrock’s Chairman and CEO Larry Fink.

She hosted the morning business show, First Up with Susan Li, where she focused on market openings across Asia. Li also reported and covered such events like the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, the 2012 US Elections, Hurricane Sandy, the Shanghai World Expo, the Chinese stock market bubble, as well as the Global Financial Crisis.

Li joined the CNBC family in 2014 as co-anchor of Asia Squawk Box (ASB) initially in Singapore and later in Hong Kong until August 2015. ASB was named the Best News Program at the Asian Television Awards in 2015. Gradually, Susan Li became one of CNBC’s top anchors and worked in other sister networks in Europe and the US.

Before she moved to CNBC Europe in September 2015, she fronted the luxury travel and lifestyle programme First Class. She was at the APEC Summit in Beijing in 2014 where she held a session on stage after Russian Prime Minister and prior to US President ‘s address. She also covered the World Economic Forum in Davos Switzerland.

At CNBC Europe, Susan Li served as co-anchor of Worldwide Exchange where she covered global economic and political issues. Li joined the US side as a correspondent and a relief presenter in January 2016. She conducted a number of interviews with political leaders and celebrities including Canadian Prime Minister , , and . After almost 4 years at CNBC learning from some of the best in the business across 3 continents, Li left the shores of the network in August 2017.

Fox Business Network

She got her start in Fox Business News (FBN) as a business correspondent in April 2018 and was officially signed in January 2019. Susan Li covers breaking financial news and has also interviewed some of the most prominent names in business and economic policy, including Justin Trudeau and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi.
