Erin Moran was an American actress popular for her role as Joanie Cunningham “the freckled face troublemaker” and sister of Richie Cunningham in American sitcom Happy days and spin-off “Joanie Loves Chachi”.

It was also known that her mother supported her and at age five got her an agent to pen her first deal. Her first deal was a commercial with a Federal Bank and this marked the beginning of a blooming career for the five-year-old.

Erin Moran was born Erin Marie Moran on the 18th of October 1960 in Burbank, California. She was the second youngest of six children. Her parents were Sharon Moran and Edward Moran who was a finance manager at the time.

In 1996, Erin Moran got a role in the 1966 television series “Darachi” which ran till 1969. Erin subsequently got a couple of roles in series and movies until she landed a role that would eventually make her popular. She got the role of Joanie Cunningham in popular American sitcom “Happy Days” where she was the crazy sister of Richie Cunningham. At the time she was just 13 years old and she also starred in a short-lived spin-off of the series which was titled Joanie Loves Chachi. Erin Moran however agreed that she only reluctantly agreed to take the role in the spin-off series and would still love to be on “Happy Days”. She returned to “Happy Days” for its final season after Joanie Loves Chachi was canceled in 1983.

 

Erin Moran finally hit the pinnacle of her career when she featured in movies and had several other television guest appearances such as; The Love Boat, Murder, She Wrote, and Diagnosis: Murder, and starred opposite Edward Albert in the cult sci-fi horror film Galaxy of Terror (1981). She also appeared in The Waltons.

In 2008, Erin Moran appeared on VH1’s reality show Celebrity Fit Club as a contestant. Two years later, she made an appearance in the independent comedy feature Not Another B Movie (2010) In 2013. There were reports that she would be reunited with Happy Days co-stars Henry Winkler, Ron Howard, and Scott Baio in the fourth season of Arrested Development but this was only a dream as she did not appear in the revamped Netflix series.

Moran was the second youngest of six children born to her parents. She married Rocky Ferguson In 1987, but they had a divorce in 1993. Later that year, she married Steven Fleischmann. She moved from Los Angeles to the California Mountains after her shows; Happy Days and Joanie Loves Chachi were canceled. In 1988, she said that she suffered from depression and was unable to gain acting roles.

Furthermore, her California home was foreclosed in 2010, she confirmed this report to be true and also mentioned that she had been served eviction papers. She eventually moved into her mother-in-law’s trailer home in Indiana. This became a big issue for the Happy Days star, as later in 2017 it was also revealed that she was reportedly kicked out of her trailer park home in Indiana because of her hard-partying ways.

Reports and interviews with close friends and family members made it known that she turned to drugs and alcohol after the show that brought her much joy was axed. Erin Moran died at 56 years of age and she was survived by her husband Steve Fleischmann. Unfortunately, they had no children together.

Cause Of Death

Erin Moran was said to be dead on the 22nd of April 2017. She reportedly died of a throat cancer complication. There were no hard substances found on her and toxicology test showed no illegal narcotics were involved in her death, neither were any illegal substances found in Moran’s home.

 

Her husband also confirmed that she had first experienced symptoms of throat cancer around Thanksgiving in 2016. He further mentioned that her cancer got bad rapidly from that point. It was made known that the facilities that had unsuccessfully attempted to treat her cancer had not made anyone aware of how badly her cancer had grown. She managed to keep it a secret from her family members too.
