Biography

Susan Abigail Tomalin was born in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York in the United States on October 4, 1946. Her dad Philip Tomalin is of English, Irish, Welsh descent while Lenora Marie is of Italian descent. She has eight siblings, four brothers, and four sisters; they were raised in New Jersey. Her father worked as a television producer and an advertising executive.

While she was growing up, Susan went to Edison High School where she graduated from in 1964. She enrolled at the Catholic University of America where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Drama. While at the Catholic University, she worked with notable drama master and coach named Father Gilbert Hartke.

Career

After her graduation, she made her film debut in 1969 when she appeared as the lead character in the motion picture’s film titled Joe. The next year, she made her television debut, appearing in soap operas titled Search for Tomorrow and A World Apart from 1970 to 1972. She also starred in other movies including The Rocky Horror Picture Show in 1975, Pretty Baby in 1978, and Atlantic City in 1981 with which earned her first Academy Award nomination.

However, the amazing actress came into the limelight in 1988, after she starred in a movie titled Bull Durham. She starred alongside Tim Robbins and Kevin Costner. Later on, she appeared in several other movies which earned her award nominations including an Oscar award nomination for her role in movies such as Thelma and Louise in 1991, Lorenzo’s Oil in 1992, The Client in 1994 and an Academy Award nomination for her brilliant performance in Dead Man Walking released in 1995.
