Tahnee Welch’s childhood may not have panned out as she would have hoped but it was something she couldn’t hide from the world, thanks to her famous upbringing. Tahnee is the daughter of the Hollywood superstar model and actress of the 1970s,  and like her mother, Tahnee has decided to toe the same career path.

Since her career began in the 1980s, she has been in a number of movies across continents and countries like Germany, Italy, and the United States. She is known for movies like Cocoon (1985); Lethal Obsession (1987); and I Shot Andy Warhol (1996).

Meet Tahnee Welch – American Model and Actress

Her real name is Latanne Rene Welch. She was born on December 26, 1961, in San Diego, California. Tahnee is well travelled by both circumstances of her upbringing and the demands of her career. Although she was born in the United States, she spent the bulk of her childhood in European countries like England, Italy, and Spain.

Welch always had the dream to make it as an actress like her mother and in the bid to achieve that, she quit her education at Westlake School for Girls and left home at the age of 16. Her journey to stardom saw her backpack through Europe while taking on some odd jobs along the way. At one point, she was a hairdresser, another a housemaid, and yet another a clerk.

Her debut as an actress came in 1984’s Italian romantic flick Amarsi Un Po’ where she got to work with some big names in the country’s film industry, including Virna Lisi. The huge success of the movie motivated her to try her luck in Hollywood. The next year, Tahnee Welch played the role of a beautiful alien in Ron Howard’s Cocoon and reprised the role three years later in Cocoon: The Return.

Her career continued to take her across Europe and America as she continued to rack up major roles in movies like the Italian romantic series Disperatamente Giulia (1989) and the American-British indie film I Shot Andy Warhol (1996). The latter movie was inspired by and based on the life of Valerie Solanas, an American feminist. Some of her other movies include Night Train to Venice (1993), Search and Destroy (1995), and Body and Soul (2000).

Besides acting, Tahnee Welch has also done voicing roles such as the one she did for a 1996 video game titled Ripper, based on the activities of the infamous serial killer Jack the Ripper. She voiced the character of one of the suspects, Catherine Powell.

Welch has also pushed her model image by posing for various A-list magazines like American Vogue, Interview, French Marie Clarie, and British GQ, among others. In 1995, she posed nude for an edition of Playboy Magazine.

Romantic Relationships

Only two of Tahnee Welch’s romantic relationships are public knowledge. One of her odd jobs was in the kitchen of Joe and Joe’s Pizzeria. Here, she met one of the sons of the owners, actor cum comedian Luca Palanca and they quickly became a thing. She only worked there for a brief time, however, and their relationship didn’t last for long after she left the employ of the family restaurant.

She then met and married actor Jared Harris in 1991. It was a small and private ceremony with only family and close friends in attendance. The marriage didn’t last long and it was dissolved in 1996. They had no children together.

Her Life as Raquel Welch’s Daughter

The actress was born to her infamous mother, Raquel Welch, and her father James Welch, her mother’s first husband. Tahnee has recalled in various interviews how she and her older brother Damon, grew up largely in the absence of their mother.

Raquel was almost always off on some big movie project, sometimes in other countries, leaving Tahnee and Damon in the care of nannies. Whenever she wrote them, she would sign her letters as ‘Raquel’ instead of ‘mom’. This was a big part of the reason Tahnee Welch decided to leave home to pursue her own path.

Raquel herself has admitted that she could have handled her kids much better than she did. She was an iconic sex symbol of the 1960s and 1970s, much like in the 1950s. Her acting portfolio saw her portray many on-stage characters, as well as record hefty contracts with studios like 20th Century Fox and Hammer Film Productions.
