Tajh Boyd’s Biography

Tajh was born on 25 September 1990. He began his freshman year in 2005 at Landstown but graduated from Phoebus High School in Hampton, Virginia and went on to Clemson University, South Calorina where he played collegiate football. At Clemson Tigers, he was the starting quarterback from 2011 to 2013.

He was a standout in Clemson University football. He finished his collegiate football career with school records and conference records for passing yards with 11,904 and passing touchdowns with 107 and is currently the all-time leader in both categories.

College Career

Tajh was redshirted for the 2009 season and coming back the following year, he became the backup quarterback. He rounded off the season with 33-of-63 passes for 329 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions.

The next season saw him taking over as the starter and led his team to a 10–4 record thereby winning the ACC Championship. 2011 could be said to be a successful year for him. The season finished with him completing 298-of-499 passes for 3,828 yards and 33 passing touchdowns. Apart from running 218 yards and five touchdowns, Tajh was also mentioned as a possible 2012 Heisman Trophy candidate.

The subsequent seasons only became more successful than their former. In 2012, he broke the ACC record for most touchdowns in a game. He threw five touchdown passes, ran for three more, collected eight total touchdowns and racked up 529 all-purpose yards. He was named the MVP of the 2012 Chick-fill-A Bowl game against the LSU Tigers. Tajh was named the ACC Player of the Year and AFCA First Team All-American after the season.

In his senior year, he set the ACC career passing touchdown record on November 14, 2013. He wrapped his college career by leading the Clemson Tigers to a 40-35 victory against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the 2014 Orange Bowl. His performance at the Bowl set an Orange Bowl record for total yards in a game. Tajh completed 31-of-40 passes for 378 yards and five passing touchdowns as well as 127 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Tajh’s Professional Career Timeline

His professional career spanned between 2014 and 2016 throughout which he was either an offseason or practice squad member or even both. He played both in the National Football League (NFL) and in the Canadian Football League (CFL).

Following Tajh’s college career, he was selected 213th overall by the New York Jets in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. His stay was short however as he was released on August 30, 2014, by the team.

 

After his release, he played in the Fall Experimental Football League (FXFL) with the Boston Brawlers and Florida Blacktips. On March 6, 2015, he signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Three months later, he was released by the team on August 18, 2015. He became a member of Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL after he signed a contract on September 12, 2015. Tajh left the team following his release on October 16, 2015. His final stint with pro football was with the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL. It was, however, his longest membership in any team. He signed a contract on November 7, 2015, and was released on June 19, 2016.

He took up the position of a coach in the 100yds football academy, Greenville, South Carolina following his announcement on May 2, 2016. Tajh serves as a mentor and a guide for students to ensure they are on the right track and have their needs met.
