Her mom worked as a City Clerk for the City of Wilton Manors. Nancy has an older brother called Tracy Eugene Stafford (born 2nd January 1948). He served as Mayor of Wilton Manors, Florida, from 1986 to 1990 and later in the Florida House of Representatives for a decade (1990 to 2000).

Raised as a Southern Baptist, the actress is a practising Christian. She is a product of Ft. Lauderdale High School and the University of Florida from where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism.

Sometime in the late ’70s, Nancy Stafford competed and won Miss Florida 1976, after which she competed with other contestants in the 1977 Miss America Pageant. The actress’s first job was as a public relations specialist after which she was signed by the New York-based firm Ford Model Agency as a model.

The year 1982 was when Elizabeth bagged her first acting role on the daytime soap opera The Doctors. Although she was a guest actress, Nancy portrayed double roles (as Adrienne/Felicia Hunt). She also made other guest appearances in shows like Who’s the Boss?, Baywatch, Remington Steele, ER, The Mentalist, Quantum Leap, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Riptide, Hunter, Frasier, Magnum, P.I., Babylon 5.

The Florida native earned her career breakthrough in the television industry in the year 1983 when she scored her first regular role in St. Elsewhere. She portrayed the fictional character of Joan Halloran on the widely acclaimed NBC medical drama series. The actress thrilled St. Elsewhere’s viewers for two seasons and later made one more appearance in an episode of the series in the year 1986.

Stafford also featured in the ABC series Sidekicks from 1986 to 1987 and later as Michelle Thomas in the legal drama TV series, Matlock. Her role in the project lasted from 1987 to 1992 when she pulled out of the series following the relocation of its filming.

Not long after she terminated her contract on Matlock, Nancy made a switch to public speaking and subsequently hosted the 1990s talk show, Main Floor. This was followed by another event captioned: Love, Marriage and Stinkin’ Thinkin, which she hosted together with New York native Mark Gungor in the year 2008.
