Todd White has lived the dream of every sport loving young Canadian. He achieved that dream by playing ice hockey on a professional level for 14 seasons, in what amounted to 654 games for 6 NHL teams and one Hockey Allsvenskan team before he retired in 2011. During his playing days, he was a center and mostly rocked the number 12 Jersey of the teams he played for.

Todd White Biography

Todd White was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, on May 21, 1975, as the son of Carol and Doug White. He grew up loving hockey, as it is one of the most played sport in his country, Canada. When he was much younger, he played ice hockey in the Central Canada Hockey League for Kanata Valley Lasers. He played for Kanata Valley Lasers for two seasons, between 1991 and 1993 and was able to set a record for Kanata Valley Lasers highest points in a single season.

While he was still in high school and was playing for Kanata Valley Lasers, he was also teaching an ice hockey class. During one of his classes, the then assistant coach of Clarkson University ice hockey team invited him to watch his team play. Shortly after his visit, White got recruited by the Clarkson Golden Knights, where he then spent his next four years playing ice hockey. During his time at Clarkson University, he was under scholarship to play ice hockey, he also spent his four academic years in the university majoring in accounting and finance.

As a fresher Todd White played 33 games and gathered 22 points, assisting 12 times and scoring 10 goals. He was named as one of the top rookies in the ECAC. In his sophomore year, he got 30 points, scoring 13 goals and made 17 assists in 35 games. In the process, he became Clarkson Golden Knights’ sophomore top scorer.

In junior year, White played 38 games- the highest number of games he played in a season while playing for the Clarkson Golden Knights. He assisted 43 times- his record number of assist for the Knights in a single season, and scored 29 goals, ranking a total of 72 points. He was honored as the Knights’ leading scorer by the ECAC All-Star and was also named an ECAC player of the week on three occasions and the team’s most improved player.

In his senior year, Todd was named as co-captain of the Knights. He played 37 times, scored 38 goals and grabbed 36 assists, earning him 74 points, an average of 2 points per game. He finished the campaign as the nation’s highest scorer, he won the Knights’ MVP award and was named in the ECAC player of the week three times. He was also named in the ECAC Championship All-Tournament Team.

Between 1993 and 1997, when he played for the Golden Knights, he played a total of 143 games and scored 198 points.

After he graduated from Clarkson University, he sought to go pro. Things initially went sour for him when he was undrafted in the 1997 national drafting. However, in the summer of 1997, his career then took a good turn when he got signed as a free agent by the Chicago Blackhawks. In his last season with the Chicago outfits, he played only a single game before he was then traded to the Philadelphia Fliers on January 26, 2000. During his time with the Fliers, he spent most of his time playing for the Fliers affiliate team in the IHL, Philadelphia Phantoms.

 

He was soon let go by the fliers and signed as a free agent with his hometown team, the Ottawa Senators, on July 12, 2000. He spent the next four seasons with the Senators before he went on to play in Sweden for Södertälje SK. He played just one game in Sweden and eventually made his return to the NHL to join Minnesota Wild. White spent two seasons with the Wilds and then signed with the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2007-2008 season. His second season with the Thrashers was undoubtedly the best season in his career. He was one of the trios that dominated the NHL that season, they called the attacking trio the “Little White Russian line”. The other pair of the trio were Bryan Little and Ilya Kovalchuk.

In 2010, Todd was then traded to the New York Rangers. A year later, he called it quits with his career as a professional ice hockey player.
