It was as Valtteri Viktor Bottas that the race driver was born on 28 August 1989 in Nastola, Finland. His father, Rauno Bottas, was into cleaning business while his mother, Marianne Välimaa, was an undertaker. What this means is that he was raised alongside a sister in a family that could not be described a wealthy one.

After his education, Valtteri served in the military in the rank of a Lance corporal. His brief service was in line with a mandatory provision for adult males in the country.

Since he was just a child, he had his eyes on competitive racing. In this regards, he was behind the wheels at the age of six when he began as a professional racing kart driver. It was here that he got the opportunity to sharpen himself while recording many victories over the years to come, and it landed him in Finland’s National Karting team.

The proper break for Valtteri was after 2005 when he got 3 Kart titles in 2006 and two titles in 2008 after winning the Formula Renault Eurocup and the Formula Renault Northern European Cup. Interestingly enough for him, from 28 starts, he was able to win as much as 17 races.

The coming years were very significant for him as he kept rising. In 2009, he won the Masters of Formula 3 but ended third in the Formula 3 Euro Series and he retained the Masters title. It was with the Williams F1 Team that Valtteri made his debut FIA Formula One World Championship in 2013. He continued racing for the team until 2016 when he signed for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport. His best outing before then was 4th which he achieved in 2014.

His first season with Mercedes saw him emerging 3rd place in the Formula One only behind Hamilton and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. That was in 2017 when he replaced Nico Rosberg after he retired, and that gave Valtteri Bottas the chance to partner with Lewis Hamilton. The year also had him winning the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and Russian Grand Prix.

He has driven for various teams including the French racing team ART Grand Prix, Prema Powerteam in Italy, AT&T Williams, Williams F1 Team, Williams Martini Racing, and Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport for which he still drives. The contract he signed with the team is expected to see him through the 2018 season.
