Dutch singer and songwriter, Floor Jansen is the lead vocalist of the symphonic metal band Nightwish. Unlike many other great singers, Floor didn’t discover she had the talent for singing until when she was 15, thereby starting her musical career in 1997 when she was 16.
More than two decades later, she has achieved a lot in her career with bands such as Forever, Northward, ReVamp, Star One, and Nightwish. More so, she has appeared as a guest on the albums and projects of various other musicians.
Who is Floor Jansen and How Old is She?
It was on 21st February 1981 that Floor Jansen was born in Goirle, North Brabant, Netherlands. While growing up, all she wanted becoming was a biologist. However, when she was 15, she got the chance to star in a school musical. It was while she was on stage that she realized that she had the gift of music.
The feeling of being on stage and singing was magical for her and suddenly, there was nothing more she wanted to be more than a singer. It was after this that she decided on pursuing music professionally.
When she was 13, she fell off a horse and had a concussion. Due to the fact that the injury she had was to the head, the singer revealed that she was placed in a psych ward with crazy people.

Singing Career
Floor Jansen has enjoyed a rather successful career that has been running for more than two decades.
She began when she was only 16 with the band Apocalypse which later changed its name to After Forever. With the band, she released two demo albums in 1999; Ephemeral and Wings of Illusion. The first album of the band, Prison of Desire was released in 2000. It was then followed by four more albums – Decipher (2001), Invisible Circles (2004), Remagine (2005), and After Forever (2007). She was the lead vocalist of the band as well as its main writer.
After the band called it quits in 2009, she started ReVamp in that same year. In 2010, ReVamp released its first album, ReVamp which was later followed by Wild Card in 2013. In 2012, she joined Nightwish as a temporary replacement for Anette Olzon. However, she later became a member and that led to the breakup of ReVamp in 2016.
Even though she released other works including live albums and some singles with Nightwish, she only had a studio album with the band, Endless Forms Most Beautiful (2015).
In 2018, she released another album, Northward (2018) with her new project, Northward which was started by Jansen and guitarist Jørn Viggo Lofstad.
She has also worked with many other artists and bands including Avalon, Epica, Nightmare, Evergrey, and much more. In the metal scene, she has become a very popular voice because of her talent in singing both rock and classical music.
The singer has many awards to her name including the Emma-gaala Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards, and the World Music Awards, all of which she won with Nightwish.
Sibling and Husband
Floor is not the only member of her family who is a singer, her sibling, Irene Jansen who is the older sister to Floor is also a musician. The two sisters have worked together as singers. Irene was born in 1983 and has been singing since 1993.
The singer is also a family woman who is married to Hannes Van Dahl. While it is not known how exactly they met or even when they met and got married, their union has been blessed with a child, Freja (a daughter) who was born in 2017. Her pregnancy was confirmed in 2016 by Nightwish’s Tuomas Holopainen.
There is a 9-years age gap between the singer and Hannes Van Dahl who was born in 1990. Also a musician, Van Dahl is known as the drummer of the metal band, Sabaton. He has been into music since the age of 13, but he only began professionally in 2011. He has been with different bands in the past including The Motherf***ers, The Gloria Story, Evergrey, and Sabaton, which he is still a part of.
