If you are a fan of the ABC TV drama series, Grey’s Anatomy then you need no introduction to the person of Chandra Wilson. Bold, black and beautiful, she is the character of Dr. Miranda Bailey in the medical series. Born Chandra Danette Wilson on August 27, 1969, she joined the cast of the show in 2005. Wilson’s birthplace is in Houston, Texas where she was single-handedly raised by her mother, Wilma Bradshaw Allen, who worked with the US postal service.
Being a mom who believed in time management, Wilma made sure her daughter was actively engaged in something all the time – both after school hours and during the holidays. She enrolled young Chandra for dance, modeling and acting classes, and so Chandra always had a full schedule. This would become the bedrock of her career in showbiz in the years that followed. True to the above fact, her career in entertainment began at the age of five when Chandra was performing in theater for the Theatre Under the Stars, a non-profit music company based in Houston, Texas.
When it was clear that entertainment was going to be a career for her, Chandra Wilson didn’t waste time in a regular high school, rather she enrolled at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston. After her program there, she attended the Tisch School of the Arts (in the New York University (NYU) and graduated in 1991 with a bachelor of fine arts degree in drama. While studying at Tisch, Chandra had the privilege of having workshops in Method acting at the illustrious Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York.
Career
Her first work after graduation was in the play The Good Times Are Killing Me where she portrayed Bonna Willis, a young black woman in the 1960s trying to beat the odds of racial discrimination. Her performance won her a Theater World Award for Outstanding Debut Performance. Her first TV role came in 1989 with a role in The Cosby Show before she got other small screen appearances in Law & Order and CBS’ Schoolbreak Special, all in 1992. Chandra kicked off her film career in 1993 with Jonathan Demme’s Philadelphia, starring alongside and .
Her acting career seemed to take a downhill turn after the birth of her first child in 1992, even though at that point her career seemed to be ready to take off. Chandra Wilson struggled to get a meaningful film or television role and so she worked at Deutsche Bank to keep the bills rolling in. Her next appearance on screen would be eight years on from the last, in 2001 when she featured in Third Watch. This was followed by Sex and the City (2002) and The Sopranos (2004).
There were also top performances from Chandra in Broadway stage musicals like Avenue Q (2003) and Caroline, or Change (2004). In 2005, she landed what would become her biggest role yet in the small screen when she came on board the cast of ABC’s medical drama TV series Grey’s Anatomy as a no-nonsense supervising doctor, Dr. Miranda Bailey, who is supervising a group of medical interns. In 2018, she starred in a guest capacity in the long-running medical TV series General Hospital as Dr. Linda Massey.
What is Her Net Worth?
Chandra Wilson has been in the entertainment industry for decades now and has held her own financially. The award-winning actress, who is currently part of the widely acclaimed American TV series Grey’s Anatomy, is said to have amassed a staggering net worth estimated at $10 million.

Is Chandra Wilson Married? Partner, Husband
Many onlookers, both fans, and critics have settled with the idea that Chandra Wilson is a married woman. And from the look of things, it will not be difficult to understand why the assumption abound. Chandra Wilson has been with her partner since 1988 (over three decades) in a relationship that has produced three children to date. So it was easy to assume that they had gotten married at some point.
But that was never the case (or so we think) because, in a March 2007 edition of Parade, she shocked the public when she revealed that she had never been married to her partner and that they were only in a relationship (the relationship was 19 years old at the time). She also reiterated that she has no intentions to make a husband of her partner as she enjoys their relationship the way it is.
2007 is such a long time but there is no record of a marriage till date so we are right to say Chandra Wilson is not married…yet. The couple has three children together – two girls and a boy. Their first daughter, Sarina, was born in 1992 after which, Joylin followed in 1998. They welcomed their last child and only son, Michael, on October 31, 2005.
