Many things come to mind when the name of Lauren German is mentioned. For some, it’s sheer talent, and for others, it’s the chill that comes with some of her movies including Hostel and Dead Above Ground. The actress came into the consciousness of mainstream Hollywood with her roles in the popular TV series, 7th Series. Although many people have come to know her on-screen and as an actress, there is still much that is unknown about her.
Who Is Lauren German?
Born on November 29, 1978, in Madison, Connecticut, her birth name was Lauren Christine German. Although there is very little that is known about her family, she revealed that her father is a vascular surgeon of Dutch and English Ancestry. Her education began at Los Alamitos High School before she later moved to Orange County High School of the Arts. After she left high school, Lauren moved on to the University of Southern California, where she studied Anthropology – not acting like many of her fans would suppose.
While in school, Lauren picked interest in acting and hence opted to attend the Actor’s Studio after she graduated from the university. More so, when she was in Orange County High School, German also trained as a dancer. Before long, the California native began to act on stage before moving to the big screen. Her first roles on stage were in Peter Pan and Oliver. It was in 2000 that she had her movie debut in Down to You, although it was only a small role that she played.
A Look At Her Acting Career Before Playing Chloe Decker on Lucifer
Lauren German has played a TV role before Down to You, in Undressed which aired in 1999. Next, she took part in 7th Heaven in 2001 which was quite successful, and the beginning of her breakthrough. One of her biggest roles was in 2003 when she took a part in the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
In 2005, Lauren appeared in the crime drama Born Killer as Gertle. The year 2007 turned out to be a very busy year for her professionally as she appeared in five films. She starred in the romantic comedy Standing Still as Jennifer alongside Adam Garcia, Melissa Sagemiller, Amy Adams, and Aaron Stanford. She followed that up with performances in It Is Fine! Everything Is Fine where she played Ruth. Next up was the musical drama What We Do Is Secret where she played Belinda. She finished up the year with strong performances in Spin, Love and Mary and the horror film Hostel: Part II.
Over the next 10 years, Lauren German will go on to appear in over 25 more movies and TV shows. For all these, she has a People’s Choice Award nomination for Favorite TV Character We Miss Most in 2015, for her role in Chicago Fire.
Performance On The TV Series, Lucifer
The big breakthrough came for Lauren German in 2016 when she was contacted to play Chloe Decker on Fox Television series Lucifer. She plays the role of Detective Chloe Decker with Tom Ellis playing the role of Lucifer Morningstar.
Lauren’s character, Chloe Decker is at the center of the entire plot. She is an LAPD detective who Lucifer takes an interest in, initially because she is immune to all of his superpowers and subsequently develops feelings for her.
Lauren’s effortless portrayal of Chloe has been one of the many highlights of the series which has received generally positive reviews across the board. After running for three seasons, on the 11th of May 2018, Fox announced that it was canceling the show due to dwindling ratings.
Following the announcement by Fox, there was an online campaign led by fans, cast members including Lauren German to compel major cable and streaming companies to pick up the show. Fans of the show trended the hashtag #SaveLucifer and #PickUpLucifer until it was a top trending topic on Twitter. A month later, movie streaming company Netflix announced that it would show the fourth season of Lucifer.
After the success of Season 4, Lucifer is due to air for a fifth and final season on Netflix commencing in the spring of 2020. In June 2019, Lauren German took to Twitter to tell fans of the show to rally the troops one more time if they wished to see the series extended beyond Season 5. There is yet no indication that fans of the show will embark on one last campaign to revive it after Season 5. Perhaps the performance and reception of the soon to be released season will determine if there would be a clamor for Season 6.
