From the Alaskan wilderness with no ties to the real world and now in Washington, the Discovery Channel’s series has followed the Browns, a large, rugged, and complicated family since 2014. The cast comprises Ami and her husband, Billy, and their 7 children; Matt, Birdie, Rain, Bear, Gabe, Bam Bam, and Noah.

Billy Brown

The head of the Brown family was born Billy Bryan Brown on December 3, 1952, in Texas where he was raised in an upper-middle-class family. After his family including his father, mother, and sister died in a plane crash when he was 16, and he had to give up his family fortune, he spent the next many years wandering through the United States. Billy also got married while he was still a teenager and had two daughters, including Twila who has also appeared on the series, before meeting and marrying Ami in 1979.

After he tied the knots with Ami in Texas, they started a family there but ended up raising their family in the Alaskan wild. The Alaskan Bush People became a thing after a producer discovered Billy’s self-written and self-published biographies.

Ami Brown

Popularly known as Ami, the Brown family matriarch was named Amora Larene Branson after her birth on August 28, 1963, in Texas. Her marriage led to her estrangement from her family but she has learned not to let that bother her.

After she left her regular job and headed off to Alaska with her husband and children, she mastered the art of gardening and growing food and also has an interest in navigation. As challenging as home management was, Ami effectively combined it with homeschooling all her children.

Ami was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer in April 2017. However, in January 2018, despite a slim chance of survival, she was eventually declared cancer-free after grueling rounds of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. The miraculous feat did very little to quell rumors from making rounds that the diagnosis was made up, even after she made several attempts to prove that it is true.

Matt Brown

Matthew Jeremiah Brown is the Brown family’s eldest son. He was born on September 7, 1982, in Texas, a year before his family moved as far north as they could. Thus, he grew up in nature his entire life; by the time he was 10, he had become a regular hunter and fisherman.

In spite of living out in the woods, Matt has had a hard time dealing with substance abuse issues. He has been very upfront about his struggles with alcoholism and his various trips to rehab.

Bam Bam Brown

Joshua “Bam Bam” Brown arrived two years after his elder brother, on September 18, 1984. In 2017, he struck out on his own and moved away from Alaska. Bam Bam is dating a former producer on the show, Alli Kagan.

Bear Brown

On June 10, 1987, Solomon Isaiah Freedom Brown joined the family. He is fondly called Bear by his kin, a name he must have acquired for his love for hunting. He hunts for meat for the family and often practices tracking animals around the wilderness. When Bear is not wandering in the wild, he works on producing his own movie. He is currently dating Raiven Adams who he met at Noah’s wedding.

Gabe Brown

Gabriel Starbuck Brown was born on December 15, 1989. He was only 3 months old when his family moved onboard a fishing boat. He has built a reputation as a hard worker and is also a talented artist. Gabe tied the knots with Raquell Rose Pantilla in 2019 and the duo are expected to welcome their first child in November 2019.

Noah Brown

While the other Brown sons are well acquainted with nature, the youngest son, Noah Darkcloud Brown, born on July 18, 1992, is the ‘gadget guy’ in the family. He often comes up with new inventions to make living in the wild easier.

Noah got married to the love of his life, Rhain Alicia in August 2018, in Idaho. They welcomed their first child and the Brown’s family first grandchild, Elijah Connor Brown on February 26, 2019.

Birdy Brown

Named after her mother, Amora Jean “Snowbird” or “Birdy” Brown is the Brown’s first daughter. She was born on the 18th of November, 1994. She is a fiercely independent person who hunts and fishes on her own.

Rain Brown

Rain is the youngest of the Brown kids and is often doted upon by the entire family. She was born on November 23, 2002. Her full name is Merry Christmas Kathryn Raindrop Brown.
