When listing the greatest Americans to have made a significant impact on a sport, names like , , , , and first come to mind for their outstanding achievements. By every right, Chris Mazdzer deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as these athletes, as he can so far be regarded as the greatest American luger, being the only person from the North American country to have won a medal in that event in the Olympics.

Who Is Chris Mazdzer?

Chris Mazdzer was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on the 26th of June, 1988 to Marty and Edward Mazdzer. His mother is an office manager while his father is a neurologist. He has two siblings; Sara and Kate, who were raised alongside him in Saranac Lake, New York.

At a very young age, precisely at about the age of 8, Mazdzer was introduced to luging. It is said that during this time, he also tried his hand at cliff jumping, lacrosse, and soccer, but ended up settling for his initial interest. He went on to train at the Olympic training center in Lake Placid as he also attended the National Sports Academy in New York.

In the 2000s, the teenager began competing in the sport, notably winning the 2015-16 Luge World Cup Men’s singles event. He went on to enroll at DeVry University where he majored in business administration and finance before getting the opportunity to compete at the winter Olympics. His first appearance at the showpiece event was in 2010 in Vancouver, Canada where he managed a 13th place finish in the Men’s Single Luge event.

Four years later, in 2014, Chris Mazdzer had the opportunity to redeem himself at the Sochi Winter Olympics but he again only managed another 13th place finish. Not much was then expected from him at 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang where he ended up surprising everybody by coming 2nd and winning the silver medal. This made him the first American male athlete to win a medal in the event.

Following that success, Mazdzer became somewhat of a sensation and a household name. He went on to appear on the reality television dancing competition Dancing With The Stars as he was also featured on a number of shows like Megan Kelly Today and Good Morning America. He has further become a mentor for the nonprofit Classroom Champions and become a member of the executive board of the Federation of International Luge.

Does He Have a Girlfriend or Wife?

Chris Mazdzer is not married, but if reports are anything to go by, wedding bells might soon be ringing as the Olympian is said to be planning to ask his girlfriend, Mara Marian, to spend the rest of her life with him. He began dating Marian, who according to her LinkedIn page is the owner of a Utah-based weddings and events business, after his relationship with bobsled driver Katelyn Kelly ended.

Mazdzer had originally said in an interview that due to his busy schedule, he would not be looking to start a relationship with anybody since he would probably always be on the road. Time proved his statements to be false as he later admitted himself that meeting Marian changed everything, and he is happy to embark on a long distance relationship with her. He further added that the differences in their careers are a huge advantage to their relationship because it would remain healthy as they pursue their own jobs and interests.

Mara Marian has proven to be very supportive of her man’s career. She was famously in the stands showing support when he won a silver medal in Pyeongchang 2018. She was present at the winter Olympics event with huge prints of Chris Mazdzer’s head and herself colored from head to toe in red, white, and blue, the famous colors of the American flag, shouting and cheering him on. She was also present when he appeared on Dancing With The Stars, cheering him on as he competed on the show.

Is He Gay?

For obvious reasons, specifically his relationship history, we can with all certainty tell you that Chris Mazdzer is not gay. That, however, has not stopped a few gay people from obsessing about him.
