Perhaps driven by his extreme passion for the wild, Dave Salmoni studied zoology in college and also made a fascinating career out of it by establishing a production company known as Triosphere. Based in South Africa, Triosphere focuses on wildlife films and documentaries.

His career path has seen the Canadian animal trainer journey into dangerous islands where the most dangerous predators on earth inhabit. Bear Island, Shark Island and the Devil’s Island are just a few of the nerve-racking places he has been to and even used himself as bait at some point to keep his viewers entertained. Just in case it crossed your mind, yes, Dave Salmoni has been attacked by one of the wild animals he loves so much. Bongo, a big cat the animal enthusiast had trained, turned against him in August 1999, in Ontario. He described the attack as unprovoked and unexpected.

Fortunately, Dave’s animal attack was not a fatal one and instead of discouraging his interest in the wild, it helped him raise the bars even higher. The attack by the five hundred pounds male African lion led Dave to make After the Attack, a reality TV series on animal attack victims. Apparently, Dave Salmoni’s life sounds like a ball of fun but there’s more to know about the animal trainer.

Who Is Dave Salmoni?

He is a renowned animal trainer and television personality born on September 4, 1975, in Ontario, Canada. His parents’ names are not available but his mother works as a coach for competitive figure skating while his father is a chemical engineer. Both parents supported their son’s interest in taming wild animals and saw him through the Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, where he majored in Zoology. His undergraduate thesis was done on tracking the hibernation of black bears in Canada. His days at Laurentian were not spent only on books, he was involved in Chemical Immobilization of Wildlife, took part in an elk relocation project as well as contributing at a pig-deer count station for the Ministry of Natural Resources.

His apprenticeship as an animal trainer started at Bowmanville Zoological Park in 1998, in 2000, Salmoni relocated to South Africa for the Tiger “rewilding” project and soon, his passion for animals turned into fame as he began hosting wildlife series like Living with Tigers, Rogue Nature, Into the Lion’s Den, Animal Face-Off and more. He is the current host and producer of After the Attack and Into the Pride, airing on Animal Planet.

In 2014, Dave Salmoni’s breathtaking short series – Deadly Islands premiered. The series brought with it, a lot of excitement, adventure and of course, danger. As implied by the name, Dave subjected himself to life on some of the most remote and dangerous islands in the world. He co-habited with some deadly predators in a bid to understand how they have been surviving the harsh weather and other conditions on the Island.

Some of the places he has been to include Bear Island, Shark Island and Devil’s Island, all of which posed a major risk to his life. In this kind of adventure, two things are mostly involved, it’s either the body succumbs to the harsh weather in some of these rare places or the wild tears you apart. Nevertheless, against all odds, Dave Salmoni survived and is still making us green with envy over his cordial relationship with lions, tigers and other animals we can only dream of petting.

The animal trainer has been featured on top TV shows like Live! from 2015 to 2018 and The Show in 2018.

Is He Married, Who Is His Wife?

Dave Salmoni is all shades of handsome and is expected to have had a very busy relationship timeline but it turns out he is not interested in sharing his personal life the way he shares his exploits in the wild. Bonnie Somerville and comedian are the only women who have been linked to him publicly. Howbeit, in 2015, Dave revealed that he was engaged and at the same time, expecting his first child with some lucky lady but we never got to hear those wedding bells.
