Edgar Wright is a multiple award-winning director best known for his creation and directing of comedy series and films. This producer, screenwriter, and talented English director began creating short films before delving into feature films. He is best known for his work on the comedy series Aslyum and the situational comedy, Spaced. Who Is Edgar Wright?

Edgar Wright was born 18 April 1974 in Poole, Dorset but grew up in the cathedral city of Wells, Somerset, England into the family of Lesley and Chris Wright. He has a brother called Oscar who is an artist. The occupations of his parents are not and nothing is known of his elementary education, however, it known that he attended The Blue School, graduated in 1992 and went on to further at the Bournemouth and Poole College of Art. He currently has an ND in Audio-visual Design.

He began producing short films while he was still a student at The Blue School. These films which were too short to be called feature films are usually shot with a very low budget (something close to no budget). This was when Edgar started infusing comedy into his work. Some of them include Carbolic Soap and Dirty Harry. His first feature film to hit the market was a low budget comedy movie titled A Fistful of Fingers. It wasn’t popular or commercially successful but through it, Wright was able to gain the attention of two famous British comedians, David Edward Williams, and Matthew Richard Lucas. They invited him to work with them and he assisted them in producing their parody show.

Edgar Wright went on to directing television series one of which he is popular for is his work on Asylum. The series ran for only one season with only 6 episodes. After Asylum came Alexei Sayle’s Merry-Go-Round, British comedy series French and Saunders and so on. Like every other star, to got his big break when he directed the sitcom Spaced created by and Tallulah Jessica Elina Hynes. The 1999 series was a major success and earned him a nomination for Situation Comedy Award category in 2000 and 2002 at the BAFTA awards.

He has been active since then and still is. He has other projects (film and TV series) to his credit such as Sir Bernard’s Stately Homes, Murder Most Horrid, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The World’s End – most of which he wrote, directed, produced and starred in. On a personal note, he has not been as successful with love as he has been with his career. He has been separated from two relationships over the years and is currently not in any. The next on Edgar Wright’s list is this British-American horror comedy film titled An American Werewolf In London. The story is basically about American students who were attacked by a werewolf while on a backpacking holiday in England. The movie featured the likes of , Griffin Dunne, among others. It was produced in 1981 and was written and directed by John Landis – who is also the writer of the iconic Coming To America. It was critically and commercially successful.

3. Carrie

The last on Edgar Wright’s list of his five favorite movies is 2001: A Space Odyssey. It is a 1968 sci-fi/fantasy movie directed and produced by Stanley Kubrick. The plot is centered on the journey to Jupiter with the sentient computer HAL after the discovery of a mysterious black Monolith affecting human evolution. The story had been observed to be a scientifically accurate depiction of spaceflight and other scientific phenomena. The film was moderately successful commercially but received mixed reviews from critics.
