Who is Jessica Simpson?

Jessica Ann Simpson was born as the first child of Joseph Simpson and Tina Ann Drew on the 10th of July 1980, in Abilene, Texas, United States. Her dad, a Baptist minister and psychologist, and her mum a hairstylist also had another kid aside Jessica named Ashlee Simpson. Her parents who have now been divorced since 2013 got married in 1978. Her younger sister Ashlee is also a singer/songwriter and actress.

Due to the nature of Joseph Simpson’s job working for the church, Jessica and the rest of her family moved around the country a lot. She attended Amelia middle school in Cincinnati, Ohio. When her family moved back to Texas, Jessica attended J.J. Pearce High School and eventually dropped out so she could focus more on her career as a singer.

Jessica Simpson realized her vision to become a singer when she was only 11 years old. Back then, she sang in the church choir. The genre of her song at her young age was largely influenced by nature and the kind of home in which Jessica was born, a Christian home.

In the year before she became a teenager, she auditioned for the Mickey Mouse Club, where she sang Amazing grace and danced Ice Ice Baby. Jessica advanced through various levels winning in all the rounds she competed in, and then became one of the six semi-finalists, going up against the likes of today’s superstars , and . The talent hunt became more interesting as performances from other contenders were superb but Jessica couldn’t continue in the show after claiming she got a nervous breakdown after watching Christina Aguilera’s performance. During one of her Church’s service, a gospel label head who was also a guest speaker noticed her singing talent when she sang an acapella version of Amazing Grace. He asked for an audition and young Jessica sang ’s I Will Always Love You and he quickly signed her to his record label.

Jessica soon began to audition at various events and sent her unreleased album Jessica to different labels and producers. Her numerous auditions eventually caught the eye of Tommy Mottola, the head of Columbia Records, who was at the time married to . She signed for Columbia Records in July 1997. On signing with the new label, Jessica named her father as her manager and her mother as her stylist.

Jessica Simpson released her debut single titled I Wanna Love You Forever on September 28, 1999. It was ranked as number 3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and was also rated platinum for sales. Her debut album Sweet Kisses was released on November 23 and in the same year, she dropped her debut single. The album happened to be a success, selling over 65 thousand copies in the first week of its release and also made number 25 on the Billboard 200chart, also selling 4 million copies globally, with 2 million sold in the United States.

Jessica Simpson released her second studio album in May 2001 titled Irresistible. The album didn’t get as much ratings as her first album despite the fact that it sold 127,000 copies in the first week of its release, almost double what her first album sold in its first week after release. Irresistible was ranked number six on the Billboard 200 chart. It could only settle for a gold certification for sales, selling 500,000 copies in total.

In 2012, Jessica released a single titled Sweetest Sin which expressed her marriage to Nick Lackey and her being deflowered. The single didn’t generate many audiences. Her dad and manager then made a proposal to MTV about starring the newly wedded couple in a reality show. MTV bought the idea of the reality show and it premiered on August 19, 2003, as Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. The show played a huge part in promoting Simpson’s third studio album and the album has since been regarded as her most successful till date. It sold over 7 million copies worldwide after it received a triple platinum certification.

Jessica has two People’s Choice Awards to her name, a BMI Award and seven Teen Choice Awards.

Jessica Simpson is married to ex-NFL tight end, Eric Maxwell Johnson. Eric Johnson was born on September 15, 1979, in Needham, Massachusetts. He attended Needham High School and Belmont Hill School in Massachusetts before playing college football at Yale.

Johnson was drafted in 2001 by San Francisco 49ers in the seventh round and overall 224th pick. His time with the San Francisco outfit was mostly troubled by injuries. Of the six years he spent at the 49ers, he spent two complete seasons on the sidelines owing to injuries.

In 2007, he signed with New Orleans Saints, but spent only a year with his new side, when he was released after a year, he signed with the city of jazz outfit.

The couple first started dating in May 2010. Two years on, they announced the birth of their first child, Maxwell Drew Johnson.

In the same year their daughter was born, Jessica announced she was pregnant with the couple’second child. And on June 30, 2013, Jessica gave birth to a baby boy. The couple named him Ace Knute Johnson.
